Wolves vs Southampton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 19th October 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves stunned everybody last time out as they beat Manchester City 2-0 away from home. Are the club back to their brilliant best from last season? It certainly seems so. That win took the club up to 11th place and they come into this game with back to back wins, and have remained undefeated in the league for 3 consecutive matches.

Home form needs to improve but they won their last game at Molineux Stadium and have lost just once from the 4 games played here so far. Wolves could go as high as 8th with victory at the weekend.

Southampton are in 17th and have been on form one of the poorest sides in the league. They come into this encounter having lost 3 games in a row. Two of those games were against Chelsea and Tottenham though as the wrong kind of fixtures have piled up for the Saints.

Away from home Southampton have performed better and have won 50% of their games. A win this weekend could move the club up as much as 5 places.

Team News:

Wolves: Diogo Jota has a toe injury but has been pencilled in to come back for this game. Pedro Neto has a foot injury and is 50/50 for the game. Morgan Gibbs-White has a back injury but is thought to be recovering well

Southampton: Cedric is out with a calf injury, he is the only new injury concern for the Saints

Wolves vs Southampton Head to Head:

Last season Wolves won this fixture 2-0.

Southampton have not won at Wolves since 2007.

The correct score of 2-0 has been the result in 3 of the last 4 games, twice for Wolves and once for Southampton.

Wolves vs Southampton Prediction:

We will back the home side to get all 3 points. They look more energised and focused and the manager has them believing in themselves once again. The tactical switch to a 3-4-2-1 even at home is working, and the club are not afraid to play one up front and pack out the defensive line and have midfielders back tracking. It might mean less goals, but if it means more wins, everyone at the club will take that. Southampton will have their moments this season but simply look too ordinary and without much merit, they will struggle more on the road as the season goes on.
