Wolves vs Southampton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 3rd September 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves slow start to the new season continued in midweek as they could only draw 0-0 with Bournemouth. With all due respect to Bournemouth who wants to be the team after Liverpool scored 9 goals against them not to score one? Also Wolves were playing against a team without a regular manager, and they should have done better.

Onwards and upwards though and Bruno Lage will be looking for his clubs first victory of the season when they take on Southampton at home, it does feel like a Wolves victory on paper but the Saints will be no roll over. Wolves have drawn 3 of their last four games including two in a row and at home they are at least unbeaten with their last home game ending in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle. However currently because of no wins as of yet Lage’s team are in 18th place.

Southampton are in 9th place and have seven points and would make a real splash within the top places if they could win here. After a slow start the Saints have won 2 of their last three games beating Leicester and Chelsea. The victory over Chelsea few could see and it shows just how difficult this league is at times, even though they were at home. On the road they have beaten Leicester but lost heavily 4-1 at Tottenham although this match up looks fairly even.

Team News:

Wolves: There are no new injuries for the club ahead of this game but Chiquinho is a long term absentee with a knee injury.

Southampton: Romeo Lavia has a knock and remains a doubt to be back for this game. Valentino Livramento is out long term with his knee injury.

Wolves vs Southampton Head to Head:

Last season Wolves won this fixture 3-1.

Wolves have won the last 3 meetings in a row and we would have to go back to 2007 for the last time Southampton won at Wolves in a league game.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Wolves vs Southampton Prediction:

Wolves feel like a team perhaps like Everton where you know good times are around the corner. Sometimes there can be panic if you start slowly and that can be a slow build in the media that just grows and grows. The truth is though Wolves have been playing some good football and have been unlucky. Also unlike previous seasons their injury list has come drastically down and that will help out the club too. We believe that Wolves are due a win and being at home they can get it in this game.

Southampton’s away form cannot be judged yet after two games but they might be a team who enjoy more points at home this season despite winning their last away game, we have to remember it was against Leicester who are bottom of the table presently. This should be a close game, but we will be tipping Wolves to recover from their slow start, a new month, to kick start their season.

We will back Raul Jimenez to start scoring goals again, we would have expected him to be doing the business already and it hasn’t quite worked out that way yet, but he is a good price to start doing what he does best and should be backed especially being at home.
