England Premier League
Saturday 15th October 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Match Preview:
Bruno Lage has been sacked but it hasn’t changed much at Wolves who followed up his dismissal with a dismal and predictable game at Chelsea losing 3-0. The club come into this game still with no manager and form is poor with 3 defeats in a row. However the club are arguably playing a team poorer than them and being at home this could be seen as a clean slate.
Wolves come into this game in 18th place but a win could well change everything. At home it’s just one defeat so far and that was against Manchester City but other than that the club have been solid at home so far. But the bottom line is that they are not scoring enough goals and have only 2 so far at home.
Nottingham Forest are in 19th place and one point behind their hosts and it is clear that their plethora of new signings are not working out- this coupled with the obvious step up from Championship football has been hard on the club who have undertaken a huge gamble in transfer fees to stay up. It felt like some sort of welcome relief for Steve Cooper’s team to draw 1-1 at home to Aston Villa last Monday evening as they had lost their last 4 in a row. But it’s just seven goals scored so far and the battle to stay in the league looks on even so early in the season. Away from home it’s just 1 point earned from a possible 9 and only one goal scored while conceding 13. Forest’s last away game ended in a 4-0 smashing to Leicester a side who up until then had not won in the new season.
Team News:
Wolves: Nathan Collins is suspended, Pedro Neto won’t return until the end of the year at the earliest with an ankle injury. Raul Jimenez is out with his groin.
Nottingham Forest: Jack Colback has a back injury and while he hasn’t been ruled out he remains touch and go. Moussa Niahate’s return from a muscle injury has been put back at least another month. Omar Richards is out for the next two weeks with a leg issue.
Wolves vs Nottm Forest Head to Head:
The clubs have not played here since 2018 when Nottingham Forest won 2-0.
The last meeting between the sides took place in 2021 at Forest in the EFL Cup and Wolves ran out 4-0 winners.
There is a pattern of over and under goals if this continues we will witness under 2.5 goals.
Wolves vs Nottm Forest Prediction:
This won’t be the game to light up the Premier League this weekend as we have two teams already thinking about relegation worries. Wolves will hope that their Premier League experience will kick in but they are really missing Jimenez up front to get the goals and they need a stable manager in charge to guide the team. It seems like a real shock now to have sacked Lage but have no replacement ready.
Forest will be hoping more to pick up points at home during this season, and despite all of their signings they seem rudderless. It’s open to debate if this is manager Steve Cooper’s fault, by all accounts he is a good manager, but he is managing strangers- and there simply hasn’t been enough time for them all to gel. It’s possible that in the second half of the season we may see this more but by then Cooper could be sacked.
We think this could be a dire match because a point means so much to the teams at this stage, and we don’t expect to see many goals and this is what we will base our choices on.
