Wolves vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 11th February 2019
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

The Premier League his divided into two leagues now where we have the top six and then the rest. This is evidenced in the fact that Wolves in 7th place are 12 points behind Chelsea. In this way we could argue that Wolves have been the best of the rest so far in this campaign.

The club will play Newcastle on Monday night knowing that a win would move them 4 points clear of Watford. Wolves have been in superb form where they have won their last 3 games in a row and at home they have won 3 from the last five. They have scored 7 goals in their last two home matches and on form they would be in the top six clubs in the league.

Newcastle have had some recent joy as they became only the 4th team to beat Manchester City this season. However in true Newcastle style they then lost their next game. Although to be fair that was an away match against Tottenham which only ended in a 1-0 defeat.

There remains a real danger that The Magpies could be relegated as they are in 17th place but have the same points as the club below them, Southampton. They really need all three points but this will be an incredibly tough fixture for Rafa Benitez’s team.

Newcastle come into this game with no away wins for 4 matches and they have not won on the road since beating Huddersfield before Christmas.

Team News:

Wolves: Diogo Jota is expected back after his knock which is thought to be minor

Newcastle: Robert Elliot has been ruled out of this game through a lack of match fitness. Jonjo Shelvey was hoping to be back for this game but that will be delayed until late February as he continues to recover from a thigh injury

Wolves vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Earlier this season Wolves won 2-1 at St James’ Park.

Last season in the Championship this fixture ended 1-0 to Newcastle.

Wolves have no wins at home to Newcastle in the last 3 meetings which goes back almost a decade.

Wolves vs Newcastle Prediction:

We should see an open game of football, because Wolves can afford to just go for the game and even try to close the gap to Chelsea to 9 points. As for Newcastle there are still enough games to go so they won’t play too cautiously, and this is why we could see a few goals in this game. There will be lots of attacks from either side and many gaps and it feels like one of those fixtures where managers tactics go out of the window quickly. Both teams have the quality to punish each other and there is some good value to be found for this game.
