England Premier League
Sunday 29th August 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Match Preview:
Bruno Lage will be feeling the pinch ever so slightly after his tenure with Wolves has started with two defeats from two games. In fairness perhaps it has been a tough fixture list having to play Leicester and Tottenham and he could also point to the fact that on both occasions his team only lost 1-0.
Still with change at the club Lage will be expected to turn it around quick and he will be hoping that Raul Jimenez, such a brilliant attacking player before his horrific injury will start to score the goals once again. The good news for the club is that some of their injury list is getting shorter and Daniel Podence such an important player for the team was able to return in their EFL Cup win in midweek. Podence scored and Wolves made light work of Nottingham Forest winning that game 4-0 away from home.
The huge news from Manchester is that Cristiano Ronaldo is returning to the club. There was interest from Manchester City but once United made their offer and showed interest Ronaldo had made up his mind. This will give some players food for thought but at the same time will up their level and who wouldn’t want to play with Ronaldo? United were looking more solid all round before the announcement of his return, will his capture now mean a title charge?
Some may question buying Ronaldo back from Juventus at 36 years of age but he is so fit and professional, one can wonder if Ronaldo is playing more like a 32 year old and that may have been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s thinking. It will be fascinating to see how his return works out.
United started the season well beating Leeds 5-1 but question marks would have risen after their 1-1 draw away to Southampton the following week. Though they were losing the game and had to come back.
Team News:
Wolves: Willy Boly could make his comeback after a lack of match fitness. Jonny and Pedro Neto are out long term with knee injuries.
Manchester United: Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to sit out this game as he has no training with his team mates. Both Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay are out long term with a shoulder injury and groin injury respectively.
Wolves vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season Manchester United won this fixture 2-1.
It’s been 7 games since Wolves last beat Manchester United.
There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Wolves vs Man Utd Prediction:
Manchester United are odds on but a very good price to win this game at around 1.80. It is true that we could have expected more from the club away to Southampton and this of course will be their second away game in a row. But if their attack can click it is difficult to see how Wolves will deal with that.
The signing of Ronaldo cannot be underestimated. Bruno Fernandes is Ronaldo’s team mate in the national side of course and he was playing great football before he arrived and there will be a fantastic feeling around the club now.
Wolves will play their part, but we expect United to get the win and ease to victory just before the first break of the season.
Wolves vs Man Utd Betting Tips:
Manchester United to beat Wolves at 1.80
Anytime goalscorer: Bruno Fernandes at 2.50
