Wolves vs Man City: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 17th September 2022
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

After 3 games played at home Wolves are unbeaten but many will expect that record to be broken on Saturday when they take on the champions Manchester City.

Bruno Lage’s side come into this weekend in 14th place and they have won just once so far although it has been clear to see that after a slow start the club are starting to gel together and have been picking up the points. Wolves last game ended in a 1-0 home victory against Southampton and they have gone their last 3 games without defeat. The worry is up front and the likes of Raul Jimenez are not hitting their marks just yet and the club has scored just three goals, only West Ham can match that figure.

Manchester City played in midweek in the Champions League and they came from behind to beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1. The talk after the game was inevitably Erling Haaland who scored a brilliant acrobatic goal to seal the winner. The forward now has 13 goals in all competitions and he will be the main focus coming into this game no doubt. City are not finding it hard to score goals like their hosts and have 20 so far easily the most in the Premier League.

City will be the odds on favourites of course and they are in 2nd place just one point behind league leaders Arsenal and they are unbeaten so far. Their last game did finish 1-1 against Aston Villa and dare we say it that on the road City haven’t looked quite convincing and have drawn their last two games.

Team News:

Wolves: Raul Jimenez is expected to return from fatigue, Sasa Kalajdzic is out with a long term knee injury. Chiquinho is also out with a long term knee injury.

Manchester City: Kyle Walker remains a major doubt with a knock and is likely to miss out again. Aymeric Laporte is due to return from his knee injury in two weeks.

Wolves vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season Manchester City won this fixture 5-1.

Manchester City have won the last four meetings in a row.

Four of the 5 meetings has seen over 3.5 goals.

Wolves vs Man City Prediction:

Who would go against Manchester City here? Virtually nobody and it won’t matter a jot that Wolves have had more time to rest with City having to play in midweek. We talk about value a lot, picking out the correct markets, value will always go hand in hand and despite City obviously being the better equipped team this is another week where City represent little value at odds being quoted of 1.30. They are the away team against a side who are visibility improving. That is one example but the other is that City despite dominating possession are finding it hard to score in the first half of games and are inviting their opponents on to take the lead. It seems that in a few matches this season City have adopted that way of playing where they are after a challenge and perhaps do not always value their opponent, and one day it is going to catch them out. As incredible as Haaland is he won’t be able to save them every week and draws can feel like defeats to a club like City.

Not to be too gloomy of course because City can come here and get a cricket score but we expect Wolves to set up ultra defensive and try to counter and frustrate Pep Guardiola’s side. So far City have been solid without being absolutely spectacular for a team with their quality and they should come away with all 3 points but instead of going for a simple win, maybe it's best to use a "-1 asian handicap" to increase the odds at no extra risk.

Wolves vs Man City Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Man City) at 1.50

Anytime goalscorer: Erling Haaland at 1.72
