Wolves vs Liverpool: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 15th March 2021
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

The Monday evening game will see a clash between two teams who have under performed this season. Wolves come into this game in 13th place and after a few positive seasons one could have expected them to be higher up in the table and challenging for a European place.

However poor form in the middle of the season has dented their chances and they could be set for a mid table finish. Form has picked up for the club though with just 1 defeat in their last five games. Though they haven’t won a game for a month with their last victory coming against Leeds.

Liverpool’s implosion is world famous now and the club have lost their last six games at home, which is a club record. But let’s concentrate on their away form. The Reds have the ninth best away record in the league which is nothing to boast about but they have only lost 3 games on the road. Jurgen Klopp’s teams recent away form has been good with 3 wins from their past four games and their last away victory came against Sheffield United in a 2-0 win.

The league is long gone and Liverpool are now 28 points behind Manchester City. The objective now is trying to finish in the top 4 and they have slipped 8 points behind Chelsea, though they do have a game in hand over the Blues. Liverpool’s overall recent form is poor with 4 defeats from their last five games.

Team News:

Wolves: Marcal and Daniel Podence (both muscle injuries) look set to miss this game but could be assessed. Raul Jimenez has been missing for 4 months with his head injury and there is no update on his condition but he has been involved in light training.

Liverpool: Roberto Firmino should be fine for this match after missing the European midweek game through a knock. Jordan Henderson won’t return for another two weeks at least with a groin injury. Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk are out long term.

Wolves vs Liverpool Head to Head:

Liverpool have won the last 8 league meetings between the sides in a row.

Last season this fixture ended 2-1 to Liverpool.

5 from the last six league meetings has seen both teams not to score.

Wolves haven’t beaten Liverpool in the league since 2010 but have knocked them out of the FA Cup twice recently in 2017 and 2019.

Wolves vs Liverpool Prediction:

Maybe Jurgen Klopp will be happy that this isn’t another home game where losing records can be shattered once more and Liverpool may just be content to play away for now. The club have a fantastic record against Wolves and are a decent price to win this match.

In the Champions League in midweek Liverpool looked like a different team and they reached the quarter finals after knocking RB Leipzig out. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane starred in that game, and looked good. The pairs lack of goals recently has really hurt the champions and Klopp will be hoping that the victory in the Champions League will help his side to get 3 points on Monday night.

Having said that, their League form is what we have to take into account more, and they have been very poor. So given the value on Wolves, especially considering their home advantage and Liverpool's poor form, we think it's worth backing the home side on a "+1 asian handicap". This means Liverpool need to win by 2 goals for the bet to lose, and a win or draw for Wolves would win the bet, if Liverpool win by one goal the bet is refunded.

Wolves vs Liverpool Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+1 Wolves) at 1.625

Goal line (Over 2) at 1.50
