Wolves vs Leeds: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 18th March 2022
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves European hopes had been dented a few weeks ago as the club went on a losing run but it has been reignited as they come into this game after winning their last two. Victories against Watford and Everton have given the club a huge boost and there is just a 2 point gap from playing in Europe next season.

So it is game on for Wolves and the players will be highly motivated to win this game on Friday night. While trying to finish in a Europa League place will be the clubs objective one can also point out that Bruno Lage’s side are only 5 points from a Champions League finish. The problem though is that they have played 2 more games than some of their rivals and also have no less than four clubs in between that target.

If Wolves do miss out on European football it will come down to their inconsistency especially at home. The club have won six games here but also lost the same amount. Their last match at home was a 4-0 thrashing of Watford however the club have in general struggled to score goals at home and have only 14 so far.

Leeds won only their sixth game of the season and it was the first for new manager Jesse Marsch who has recently replaced Marcelo Bielsa. The win was huge at the weekend for a club who were on dreadful form. It won’t have made too many people believe that the club are out of the woods just yet as it was only a victory against the bottom club Norwich but it was a huge 3 points that has seen Leeds find some breathing space.

Currently the club are still in 16th place but now have 26 points and they have gone 4 points clear of 17th placed Everton- albeit they have played 3 games more. Leeds have won just seven points from their last 30 and away from home it is just two wins so far, and the club have lost their last 3. Leeds last win on the road came back in mid January when they beat West Ham.

Team News:

Wolves: Hwang Hee-Chan has a back injury and will need to be assessed. Ki-Jana Hoever is a major doubt with an on going muscle injury. Nelson Semedo is out for another three weeks at least also with a muscle injury.

Leeds: Junior Firpo is out with a leg injury, Rodrigo will be assessed after a slight knock. Kalvin Phillips is not due back for another two weeks with his on going hamstring injury it is the same situation for Liam Cooper. Leo Fuhr Hjelde may not return until May with his knee injury.

Wolves vs Leeds Head to Head:

Last season Wolves won this game 1-0.

It’s been seven games since Leeds beat Wolves and we would have to go back to 2016.

The last 3 meetings have all been under 2.5 goals.

It’s been 18 games since we witnessed a 0-0 scoreline in this fixture.

Wolves vs Leeds Prediction:

Wolves are a great price to win this game and if they can keep up their form we can’t see them dropping points here. It is true that Wolves home form has been up and down but if we look at their recent form it was recovered by beating the teams in 17th and 18th place and Leeds are in 16th

Jesse Marsh will be over the moon to get his first win for Leeds but it was against the bottom club and this match against a top 10 team away from home seems like a stretch of the imagination that Leeds will get anything here. Leeds are conceding almost 3 goals per game away from home and there are plenty of players in this Wolves side that can cause damage. The pressure is more on Leeds to win the game too as they need to increase their lead over the bottom three with tough fixtures coming up. Wolves seem back to enjoying their football and under the floodlights we only see one winner.
