Wolves vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 30th December 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves have just enjoyed a battering of Brentford winning that game 4-1 and it was away from home. This follows on from their 2-1 win at home to Chelsea and recent form has certainly been decent. Wolves come into the last weekend of the year in 11th place with 25 points, the same as Chelsea and only four behind the free falling Newcastle. The club have been able to pick up 10 points from their last 15 on offer. At home it’s been 4 wins from 9 so not the best return but also the club has seen just two defeats so far and recent home form has been solid and we would have to go back almost three months since the club last tasted defeat at home.

Everton have improved recently but have suffered in their last two games losing both of them. Perhaps that felt inevitable having to play Tottenham away from home and then newly crowned World Club Cup champions Manchester City even if it was at home. Everton were leading against City but their quality told in the end to win 3-1 in Everton’s latest defeat. It is worrying for Sean Dyche’s side because Luton have found form and Everton are just 1 point above the safety zone with 16 points. And now Everton are playing away but alas their away form has been better so far and they would rank in 5th place on away form alone. The Toffees have managed five wins from 9 and lost three. They have won 4 of their last five away games too. Whilst it looks a little gloomy for Everton at present if they won here and other results went their way it would be possible that the club would head into 2024 in 15th place. For now the priority is to make space between them and Luton.

Team News:

Wolves: Craig Dawson, Fabio Silva, Hwang Hee-Chan and Boubacar Traore will all be assessed for what is seen as minor injuries. Joseph Hodge is a major doubt due to a lack of match fitness but was being pencilled in for this game. Jonny remains unavailable for the team

Everton: Abdoulaye Doucoure is only 50/50 to return following his hamstring injury and may not be risked. Idrissa Gueye remains out with a calf injury, Ashley Young is out for at least two weeks with a muscle injury and Dele Alli remains sidelined for now with an ongoing hip injury

Wolves vs Everton Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 1-1.

It’s been six games going back to 2021 since Everton has managed to beat Wolves.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Wolves vs Everton Prediction:

Everton need to find a boost because despite their recent upturn in form they are back to losing games again. But playing Wolves will be their real bar to set themselves against the club won’t really get that playing Tottenham or Manchester City and it has to be said Everton have been playing good football and creating chances.

Wolves' form has improved and perhaps the club will be quietly confident that they have what it takes to beat a side who have struggled against them in recent weeks. It is a risk but we are going to back these two sides to share the spoils in what should be a closely contested match. Both teams have good quality and we should see a free flowing match that produces chances for them but this fixture also has a recent history of a few draws and we wouldn’t be too surprised to see that repeat at the weekend.
