Wolves vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 20th May 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves are in 13th place and have little to play for although this is their final home game of the season and they will want to give out a positive performance. A bad finish to the season could see the club end up in 15th place at the very worst and possibly 11th if they were to win their last two games of the season but we won’t see any dramatic change for the club.

Form for Wolves has been a mixed bag with six points won from their last 15 and they lost their last game 2-0 against Manchester United. However Julen Lopetegui’s side won their last home game beating Aston Villa 1-0. At home Wolves have been fairly strong winning 50% of their games and they have the 10th best home record in the league furthermore the club are on quite a run and have won their last 4 home games. The last side to beat them here was Leeds two months ago.

The focus on this game won’t be with Wolves unless of course you are a supporter but with Everton who are facing their second successive relegation threat. The good news for the Toffees is that survival is in their hands and a win would send them 4 points clear of Leeds with the club playing the day after against West Ham. Everton are in 17th coming into this weekend and just one point in front of the bottom three. Wins continue to be hard to come by for Sean Dyche’s side with just 2 in their last ten and just 5 points earned from their last 15. However fans will point out that the club have responded well away from home lately and no one will forget the fantastic 5-1 win over Brighton. Before that game Everton drew 2-2 against Leicester but those performances have been cited as a way to believe that the club will stay up. They will not be bothered by losing last weekend at home to Manchester City even if it did end in a 3-0 loss. City are on a different level and while the defeat was a setback one would expect the team to retain their confidence and try to pick up something in this game.

Team News:

Wolves: There are no new injuries for the club to report.

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a slight groin injury but the club are hoping he will be fine for this game and will be assessed. Vitaliy Mykolenko has a thigh injury but he will be assessed. Ben Godfrey is out with his groin as is Ruben Vinagre with his Achilles. Seamus Coleman is out for the season with a knee injury.

Wolves vs Everton Head to Head:

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Wolves vs Everton Prediction:

Sean Dyche needs to see a Brighton performance again because Everton have been very poor on the road and they are about to face a side where they have found it difficult to win over. It doesn’t help that Calvert-Lewin is carrying a groin injury, he is tipped to play but how fit will he be? Goals in general have been a problem for Everton however scoring seven in their last two games doesn’t suggest that but fans need to stay cautious.

The mistake that Wolves are playing for nothing shouldn’t be taken too lightly, they will want to see a big club relegated from a tough league for next season and will of course want to give out a good final home game of the season. This is a tricky game for Everton and if Jordan Pickford is not on his game or the defence let them down this game could end in misery, there is literally nothing between the two sides in what should be a fiery and close battle.
