England Premier League
Saturday 5th March 2022
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Match Preview:
Wolves have taken the punches and they are bruised. But they should be proud. For a moment there it looked like Bruno Lage in his debut season with the club was going to mount a challenge for 4th place and a Champions League finish, how remarkable would that have been? But back to back defeats look to have put paid to that now and the club come into this weekend 7 points behind 4th but also have 4 teams in front of them for that position.
Arsenal have put a dent in Wolves chances beating them home and away in the last few weeks and last weekend the club lost at West Ham to make it 3 defeats from their last five games. Their recent two losses have both been away from home though so the club will be happy to be returning to play in front of their fans. Because Tottenham do not play until Monday evening when they take on Everton, a victory for Lage’s side here would put them above Spurs and into 7th place.
Crystal Palace beat Stoke 2-1 in midweek to reach the FA Cup quarter finals so there will be an upbeat mood at the club presently. The Eagles will remain at home in the FA Cup and will play Everton. As for the league Palace are in 11th place with 30 points and have only lost one game in their last five. The clubs last match ended in a 1-1 draw at home to Burnley, and they would have been disappointed given that they had taken the lead in that game. On the road Patrick Vieira’s side have gone their last 4 games unbeaten although it is worth noting that 3 of those games have finished in draws. However the Eagles last defeat away from home came back on Boxing Day against Tottenham.
Team News:
Wolves: The club has no new injuries and only Nelson Semedo is out until next month with a muscle injury.
Crystal Palace: Joel Ward is recovering well after his groin injury but isn’t expected back until next week. Nathan Ferguson won’t return for another month after his hamstring injury lay off.
Wolves vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
The teams last met when Wolves were at home in the FA Cup and Wolves won 1-0. Last season this fixture also ended in a Wolves victory as they won 2-0.
In the Earlier fixture when Crystal Palace were at home, Palace won 2-0.
The last 8 meetings in a row have ended in under 2.5 goals.
Wolves vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
We don’t expect to see a good match and it could become a physical one. Once we analyse the teams we can see that Wolves have faced a few sucker punches. They will bounce back and understand that they have a chance to qualify for the Europa League but they might be feeling down for this game which should be quite intense. Palace are thinking of the FA Cup now and who could blame them? Realistically a path to European football does not seem possible in the league but the chance of silverware in the FA Cup would be quite something for them. Obviously there is a long way to go, but at the same time they are two wins from a cup final.
Wolves then have more to play for, but we see this being a draw with all respects, it is a risky bet granted, but let’s also remember that this has been a fixture over the last decade that has produced very few goals and don’t expect to see many chances here.
