Wolves vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League

Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves have dropped down to 13th after losing back to back matches and they will be looking to pick up something here at home in this midweek fixture against Chelsea.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side played better than Aston Villa at the weekend but it mattered little as they lost 1-0 and the worry for the club is that they could fade away from the chasing pack. At the same time Wolves have proved over the past two seasons that they just keep dusting themselves down and get back up again and put in a performance every time it seems like they will go on a bad run.

Wolves have already pulled off some good wins this season, most recently going to Arsenal and winning, and victory here could see the club climb into the top 10.

Chelsea were left stunned at the weekend as they lost 1-0 to Everton, stunned because it was the Blues first loss in any competition in three months and the big question is how will they react to defeat? Of course Chelsea have lost in the league before, at the beginning of the season against Liverpool, how Frank Lampard must loathe Merseyside at this time. But going on such a good run and then losing will create a test of character and it will be interesting to see how they perform in midweek.

Chelsea have slipped to 5th with that loss but there is nothing in it at the moment in the league and the Blues are just 3 points from the top. It’s interesting to see that Chelsea have been stumbling ever so slightly on the road of late and though they recorded wins over Newcastle and Burnley there have been 3 games on the road from their last five where they have failed to win.

The Blues were met with the news this week that they will face Atletico Madrid in the first knock out round of the Champions League and that looks set to be a very difficult fixture for the club. But given that the competition does not resume until February they will not have to think about it yet.

Team News:

Wolves: Joao Moutinho is suspended for his two bookable offences last weekend. There has been no updates on Raul Jimenez’s head injury but it looks very likely he will miss the rest of the month.

Chelsea: Callum Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech are both missing and won’t be back for at least another 10 days. Both have hamstring injuries.

Wolves vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Last season Wolves lost this fixture 5-2.

From the last 8 meetings Wolves have won just once.

3 of the last four meetings has seen both teams to score.

Wolves vs Chelsea Prediction:

The value could be worth sticking with Wolves even though we know that at least on paper Chelsea has the side to win the game.

Surely after their first defeat in a long stretch Chelsea would have preferred to be playing at home but now they will have to take in another away trip to a difficult ground. Wolves lost their last game here against Aston Villa and form isn’t very good, one has to ask how long could that last for Wolves who have proven each time to come back from the brink.

So Chelsea should be able to come here and claim something, but having the option on the double chance for a home win at decent value isn’t such a bad choice, as we do not know how Chelsea will react and of course they will be missing some pace in the team without Hudson-Odoi and Ziyech.

Wolves vs Chelsea Betting Tips:

Double Chance: Wolves or draw at 2.10

Both teams to score at 1.91
