Wolves vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves will want to forget the opening weekend of the season when they were involved in an incredibly controversial VAR moment. They should have been awarded a penalty at Manchester United and somehow were not and ended up losing the game 1-0. They will have to move on from that and will at least play in front of their home fans for the first time this season, there should be a good buzz about the game. Even though it is not Brighton’s fault you will sense that the Wolves players will be up for this game after the injustice of last weekend, let’s see what unfolds.

Brighton got off to a positive start as they thumped newly promoted Luton 4-1 last weekend. It was a strange game in that there only seemed to be one winner here and yet the Seagulls were only 1-0 up at half time. Indeed with less than 10 minutes remaining they were only leading 2-1 but they did have almost 30 attempts on goal and the gulf in class was underlined. Brighton have looked solid now for a good two seasons but this week they lost Moses Caicedo to Chelsea for a British transfer record of £115m. The good news is that the transfer window is open for almost two weeks and hopefully the club can invest some of that money in new players, we will have to wait and see.

Team News:

Wolves: There are no injury concerns to the first team.

Brighton: Adam Lallana and Adam Webster both have knocks and could miss out here but they will be assessed first.

Wolves vs Brighton Head to Head:

Last season Brighton won this game 3-2.

Brighton have scored 12 goals past Fulham in the last 3 meetings.

It’s been just over two years since Wolves beat Fulham at home.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Wolves vs Brighton Prediction:

While these teams have had close results in the past it is very clear that of recent Brighton have been the team to boss the games and have won the last 3 meetings in a row. The Seagulls of course are not just winning games over Wolves they are scoring many goals too and even though it was at Brighton in their last game played last season Brighton thumped them 6-0. We don’t expect to see a repeat score but for sure Brighton have certainly had the upper hand. The good news for the Seagulls is apart from a couple of concerns their first team squad is injury free. For Wolves too they have zero injuries to report but will be mindful that they have lost a lot of players in the summer transfer window.

Despite a changing of the guard including bringing in new manager Gary O’ Neil many were impressed with Wolves' display away to Manchester United, never an easy ground to go to and so this leads us to what could well be an intriguing game. Brighton will be on a high but they were at home against what looks to be the weakest side in the league. Wolves need to show character but they certainly have a chance to get off the board this weekend.
