England Premier League
Sunday 9th May 2021
Kick off at 12noon BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Match Preview:
Wolves have lost just once from their last four games as they try to finish the season with some consistency and they will fancy their chances of picking up another three points at the weekend.
The problem for the club is that they are too far down the table to finish in a European place but are safe from relegation, in effect their season is over. Wolves are in 12th place and coming into this weekend are 5 points behind Leeds, and so even with a win they would remain in the same position. Last weekend the club drew 1-1 with West Bromwich Albion and at home their most common results are defeats with 7 from 17 games.
Brighton in theory are safe as they have 37 points and are 10 clear of the bottom three with 4 games remaining. Their absolute safety should be confirmed within the next two days given how poor Fulham have been recently. The Seagulls have just one win of their own from their last five games, the good news is that it came last weekend with victory over Leeds in a good 2-0 win.
On the road Graham Potter’s team have picked up 20 of their 37 points and have the 12th best record. Recent away form has not been good though and their last trip ended in defeat to bottom side Sheffield United.
Team News:
Wolves: Rayan Ait-Nouri has a knock and will be assessed. Jonny, Pedro Neto, Marcal and Raul Jimenez are all out long term.
Brighton: Adam Lallana is out but could return next week from a calf injury. Soloman March has been ruled out for the season with his knee. Percy Tau will be assessed after his hamstring injury and could return.
Wolves vs Brighton Head to Head:
Last season this fixture ended 0-0.
Earlier in the season the teams shared a six goal thriller with the game finishing 3-3.
The last 4 meetings in a row have all ended in draws.
Brighton have won just once from the last six trips to Wolves.
Wolves vs Brighton Prediction:
History says that this fixture will be a close one and this particular match given that both clubs have little to play for could well end up in the same way.
We think the value is with Wolves in this encounter given they have home advantage, therefore will back Wolves to win or draw, but we expect few chances for both sides. Brighton of course would welcome the win just to confirm safety and to be able to celebrate but it would take quite a succession of results going against them for the club to be relegated now. That is why this game may not always feel like a competitive one and we don’t expect this will be one of the more exciting games of the weekend.
