England Premier League
Saturday 18th September 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Match Preview:
It’s fair to say that Bruno Lage, the new Wolves manager, wouldn’t have envisaged such a negative start for his team but the reality is that the club have won just 25% of their games so far. But perhaps there is some light at the end of the tunnel and this fixture will be another seen as a possible win.
That light came in the shape of victory last weekend which ended a 3 game losing streak. Hee-Chan Hwang was the hero grabbing the winning goal as Wolves beat Watford 2-0 away from home. The club, as a result, have now climbed to 13th position. Wolves were the better side and managed 14 attempts on goal and the hope is that after the international break Lage has been able to wipe the slate clean and start again. This home game gives the club the opportunity to win back to back matches and that would start the belief in the fans that the club are on the right track.
Brentford are evidently enjoying themselves, and so they should with their first top flight experience in 74 years. However since beating Arsenal on the opening day of the season the Bees have failed to win a game. Two draws followed and the club lost their first game of the season last weekend going down 1-0 at home to Brighton.
Team News:
Wolves: No new injuries for the club but an update on Pedro Neto suggests that the player will not be back until December due to his knee injury.
Brentford: No new injuries for the club although Mads Bech Sorenson and Josh Da Silva are out long term with a knee and hip injury respectively.
Wolves vs Brentford Head to Head:
This will be just the 28th time the clubs have ever played each other.
The last time the teams played this fixture was in 2018 and Wolves won 3-0.
From the last 5 times that Wolves have been the home team they have lost just once.
It’s been 5 meetings since Brentford recorded a win against Wolves.
There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Wolves vs Brentford Prediction
There is good value to be had in this game because it is obvious that Wolves are not as strong as they were 18 months ago. The club have been slipping backwards since then and they face a team with hardly any Premier League experience. It shouldn’t be a surprise to learn that Wolves are the favourites to win this game and even though they are odds on the price is still good for us.
Victory over Watford was important and Lage will be hopeful that his side can take that result and earn another 3 points at the weekend. Brentford play like they have nothing to lose and if they finish 17th this season they will be happy enough just to survive.
The Bees will be more confident at home this season and we have to understand that it has been a month since they recorded a win. Everything points to a home win here and maybe we will finally see Raul Jimenez get on the score sheet against a shaky Brentford defence. With the home crowd behind them we expect Wolves to have many chances.
