Venue: Molineux Stadium
Match Preview:
Wolves have picked a great time to find form and for now it cannot be underestimated what an effect Julen Lopetegui has had on the side. The club come into this game having won 3 from their last four games and that is a stunning return for any club in the bottom six. This includes back to back wins before this one with victories over Liverpool and Southampton. Indeed Wolves last home game was a brilliant 3-0 win over Liverpool, what chance then do Bournemouth have?
With just one defeat from their last five games Wolves have really given themselves a chance however they are far from safety and just 5 points is the difference from the bottom three. At home it’s just 4 wins from 11 games but the important statistic is that the club have won their last 2 at home scoring 4 goals from those two games. Take into account that before that they had scored just 5 goals from 9 games in front of their own fans.
Bournemouth are 19th but one win could take them out of the bottom three and at least the last few results have been more encouraging. The Cherries have managed to not lose from two of their last three games with draws against Nottingham Forest and more impressively Newcastle. But the huge worry staring everyone associated with the club is that they have conceded 44 goals which is the most in the league so far. It doesn’t bode well for the rest of the season and the club remains one of the favourites to be relegated. Away from home Bournemouth has the worst record in the league with 5 points from a possible 33 and just 9 goals scored. They are also conceding almost 3 goals per game.
Team News:
Wolves: Hwang Hee-Chan is still a month away due to his hamstring, Daniel Podence will be assessed due to a groin strain. Mario Lemina is suspended after he was sent off last weekend. Boubacar Traore has a muscle injury and is 2-3 weeks away with a muscle injury.
Bournemouth: Lewis Cook and Lloyd Kelly are major doubts and are not due back for this game. David Brooks is out long term with his hamstring. Junior Stanislas remains 50/50 to be involved in this game after his muscle injury, Marcos Senesi could return from a back injury.
Wolves vs Bournemouth Head to Head:
The last time the clubs played here was in 2020 with Wolves winning 1-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the score was 0-0.
4 of the last five meetings has seen under 2.5 goals.
It’s been 8 years since Bournemouth beat Wolves away from home.
Wolves vs Bournemouth Prediction:
This looks like a straight forward victory for the home side and they have to beat the teams around them if they are going to stay up. Form is very good and their recent history over Bournemouth is good enough for us to think to back the home side.
Goals wise everything is improving for Wolves and new manager Lopetegui is very experienced he will know the club have to hit hard and win points as having a new manager and new approach can wear thin quick. For now Wolves are on the right path but the minimal effort here is to win your home games and we think they will be fired up to do so against a battling Bournemouth side but ultimately one low on confidence.
