Wolves vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Consistency is the key problem for this very talented Wolves side and despite pulling off some impressive results this season it is the reason they are in 10th place.

Though of course the fixtures have not been easy. Beating Arsenal away a week ago was superb although it cost them the services of Raul Jimenez. The strikers presence was missed against Liverpool at the weekend though he probably wouldn’t have made much difference as Wolves lost 4-0. Losing at Anfield against the champions holds no shame but manager Nuno Espirito Santo would have been disappointed that his club shipped four goals.

A win could see Wolves move into the top six depending on other results but a loss here and other teams above them winning and you start to feel that the clubs inconsistency will be catching up with them. Perhaps the encouraging news for the club is that their home form is solid and they have only lost once so far. They come into this home match unbeaten in their last four, with their last home game ending in a 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Aston Villa are in 12th position and two points behind their hosts. Villa have surprised this season considering they were almost relegated a few months ago. However recent form is very poor and the club have lost 4 from their last five games. Indeed on form alone the club would be in 18th place.

Their last game ended in a 2-1 defeat at West Ham although Dean Smith’s side come into this encounter well rested. The reason is that their game with Newcastle was called off last week because Steve Bruce’s team had been struck down with the Coronavirus. But having the extra weeks rest doesn’t always mean a positive outcome and some players may feel slightly rusty while others will have been re energised.

Villa’s away form is good with 3 wins and one defeat and the West Ham loss was the first time this season that the club had conceded away from home.

Team News:

Wolves: Raul Jimenez is of course missing after his fractured skull injury and looks set to miss the rest of the year. Jonny is long term with his knee injury.

Aston Villa: Ross Barkley is ruled out with his hamstring but is due back the following week. Keinan Davis is being pencilled in for a return for this match after his ankle injury.

Wolves vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 2-1 to Wolves.

From the last 5 Premier League meetings Aston Villa have won just once.

3 of the last four meetings has seen both teams to score.

Wolves vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Wolves need to find consistency and more points at home and what we have noticed is a clear pattern of when Santo’s side lose a game they pick up points in the next.

Daniel Podence has been a real presence for Wolves in recent weeks and he should be taken on to score anytime. Not having Jimenez is a major blow but Wolves have enough quality at home to come through this.

Aston Villa have had impressive results in this campaign already but are struggling for consistency and do not have a great record away to Wolves, so we will back the home side to dust themselves off from their recent no show at Liverpool and get back to winning ways, though it could be a close encounter.

Wolves vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:
