Match Preview:

Wolves won just their 2nd game of the season last weekend but it was a big one as they inflicted the first defeat of the season on the current champions Manchester City. Wolves went in front and got pegged back but won the game 2-1 in thrilling fashion and the question that will be raised will be was this one of those surprise games or could this prove to be a turning point for Wolves? We will find out much more this weekend. It was a victory that propped the club up to 15th place as they went three points clear of 16th placed Everton. This game followed a 1-1 draw with Luton so Wolves despite a slow start to the campaign have gone their last two games unbeaten at least.

Aston Villa have shown signs of a brilliant but sometimes naive team this season but there is no denying that the club are looking like their most exciting in a long time under manager Unai Emery. Last weekend they thrashed Brighton 6-1 at home and will want to follow that up with another win to show their intention this season. Villa have risen to fifth place and could really make a splash into the top four with a win at the weekend. They are one of the in form sides winning their last three games in a row with wins over Crystal Palace and Chelsea and of course the Brighton one. These are good times for Villa and with 18 goals only one side has scored more so far which is surprisingly the team they just hammered in Brighton, it’s been an interesting season for sure!

Team News:

Wolves: Coming into this match Wolves have no injuries problems however Jean-Ricner Bellegarde is missing through suspension and won’t return for another two weeks

Aston Villa: Moussa Diaby could return after a knock and will be assessed. Leon Bailey is out with a muscle issue, Emiliano Buendia won’t return until February with a knee injury. Alex Moreno was being pencilled in to return but may have had a setback with his recovery from a hamstring injury and looks set to be a doubt and Tyrone Mings is still missing with a knee injury

Wolves vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Last season Wolves narrowly won this match 1-0.

Wolves have avoided defeat in the last five meetings and we would have to go back almost three years since the last time Aston Villa tasted victory in this fixture.

Three of the last four meetings has seen both teams to score.

Wolves vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Wolves would have been on a high for the week and good for them they put in a shift against City and deserved their victory. This is another game though and even though they are at home it is a tricky one against a quality opponent who are clearly wanting to finish in a Champions League place for next season. This game should be open and could well follow suit like recent games and have goals in it and the both teams to score market should be picked.

Away games of course are never easy but Villa are on good form and are looking stronger week in and out and we will be backing Emery’s side to get all three points at Wolves who have not been spectacular this season apart from the odd speedbump, could the Manchester City victory be just that? We think so.
