England Premier League
Saturday 6th May 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Match Preview:
This game will see the meeting of two Spanish managers who know each other very well in Julen Lopetgui and Unai Emery. Wolves have flirted with relegation this season but with 37 points and seven points clear of the bottom three they should be safe this season. However a win at the weekend would really witness a feel good factor with their fans being at home and really confirm that the club will keep their Premier League status.
Recent form for Wolves has been a mixed bag but they have seen three vital wins despite losing two of their last three and the club will feel they have done enough. However this is a game about recovery after being taken apart last weekend at Brighton in a 6-0 battering although their last home game finished in a solid 2-0 win over Crystal Palace which put an end to Roy Hodgson’s unbeaten run since his return.
Aston Villa come into this weekend in 8th but if results go there way they could end up in 6th by the end of it. A European finish is well on the cards for Emery’s side who have been one of the most in form teams in the league for the past two months. However the Villains have dropped points recently which includes a draw at Brentford and in their last game they narrowly lost 1-0 away to Manchester United. Indeed this hasn’t been an easy time given that they have only played at home once in their last four games. Currently Villa have 54 points the same as Tottenham but with an inferior goal difference.
Team News:
Wolves: Nelson Semedo is the only doubt for the club with a slight knee injury and he will be assessed.
Aston Villa: Leon Bailey could be assessed but will likely miss out with an on going hamstring injury. Matthew Cash is being tipped to return from his calf injury. Philippe Coutinho will be assessed and could return as could Boubacar Kamara from his ankle injury.
Wolves vs Aston Villa Head to Head:
Last season Wolves won this fixture 2-1.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the game finished in a 1-1 draw.
The last three meetings have all seen both teams to score.
Wolves have won 3 of their last four home games against Aston Villa.
Wolves vs Aston Villa Prediction:
We should see a good end to end and flowing game with plenty of chances for both sides. Aston Villa’s surge of form has taken a slight hit lately and it’s never easy to win games on the road and Wolves will feel more secure with another win under their belt and while they have blown hot and cold this season they have been able to pick up some impressive results at home.
This is a game when the little details are really going to count but we will backing the home side to get at least a point. Wolves have a solid record at home to Villa and even earlier in the season looked comfortable against their opposition. It is true that Emery is doing a superb job though but one has to wonder if a little tiredness has crept into his sides form, it would be understandable. When you see a home side at 3.00 to win the game against a team not regarded as one of the big six and with the added motivation that a home win is certainly keeping you up we think that equals great value so it makes sense to take on the home side.
