England Premier League
Saturday 2nd April 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Match Preview:
Wolves Champions League hopes look over as they are 8 points behind 4th placed Arsenal and have played two more games but hopes for European football next season are certainly not over.
Bruno Lage has done a wonderful job in his first season with the club and if they can finish strong with the 8 remaining games they have to play then they have every chance to play in Europe next season. Recent form has not been great though and the club have lost 3 of their last five games. Before the international break Wolves thought they had bagged all 3 points as they were beating Leeds 2-0 with under half an hour left to play but they spectacularly lost that game 3-2.
Wolves are in 8th place but would go 7th with a win and past West Ham because the Hammers do not play until the next day.
Aston Villa are just one place below their hosts in 9th place but are a cool 10 points behind. Currently no one at the club will be complaining if Villa finish in 9th place and that had to be the objective for this season to finish in the top half. Although after winning 3 games in a row Steven Gerrard’s side come into this one with back to back defeats and they have come against West Ham and Arsenal.
On the road Villa have picked up the same number of points as at home with 18 and still have yet to draw a game. Villa have won 3 of their last five games away from home and have recently beaten Leeds and Brighton.
Team News:
Wolves: Raul Jimenez is suspended for the next 2 games after his red card before the international break. Ki-Jana Hoever has a hamstring injury and no return date has been given. Pedro Neto is being tipped to return from a foot injury. Ruben Neves is out until May with a knee injury. Nelson Semedo could return from his muscle injury which has kept him out for the past month and he will be assessed.
Aston Villa: Marvelous Nakamba is 50/50 to return after his knee injury and will be assessed. Kourtney Hause has a muscle injury and is ruled out with no return date as of yet.
Wolves vs Aston Villa Head to Head:
Last season Aston Villa won this fixture 1-0 it’s their only victory in the last five meetings.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Wolves won 3-2.
3 from the last four meetings has ended in under 1.5 goals.
Wolves vs Aston Villa Prediction:
Inconsistency is the problem with Wolves who have found it hard to win consecutive games especially at home. They have obviously had a much better season than their opponents but let’s be honest the club will be missing some key players. Pedro Neto may return but could be rusty but forward Raul Jimenez who was finding his groove as of late will be missing for this game and the next because of his recent red card, that being his 2nd of the season. Ruben Neves is another big name player missing for them and he will do well to come back this season.
Aston Villa can’t make Europe and maybe there is the threat that some players could switch off however having Gerrard as your manager should be the motivation to work hard, he can have quite a temper on him and that already has been witnessed in some press conferences. This is a good opportunity for Villa to end their losing run and get something here against a tough opponent who will be weakened and the price on a away victory looks like solid value.
