Wolves vs Arsenal: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 7:45pm GMT
Venue: Molineux Stadium

Match Preview:

Wolves are in great form under Bruno Lage and come into this game having won their last 3 games. It is fair to say that the winter break came at the wrong time for the club and they have crept up to 8th place and with the same games played are only two points behind Arsenal. So there is a lot to play for here as the home team attempt to leapfrog their visitors.

Wolves last league game finished in a 2-1 victory away to Brentford and the club are scoring goals too and have netted five times in their last two games. At home the clubs record could be better as they have only won 40% of their games however that was due in part to having a slow start and recently it is just 1 defeat from their past five home games.

Between September and Christmas Arsenal improved greatly to put in their best consistency since Arsene Wenger left the club. But then January came…. The first month of the year was a horrible one for the Gunners as they were knocked out of both domestic cups, lost to a last minute Manchester City goal and then drew 0-0 at home to the bottom club Burnley. It’s been 7 weeks since Arsenal won a game because of postponements and one has to wonder if the clubs season will fizzle out or will they find their form again and make a push for the top four?

In the midst of poor results Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona on a free transfer after he fell out with manager Mikel Arteta. This is the same player who was almost on club legend status 18 months ago, but since signing a new contract the Gabon international has been poor for the Gunners.

Team News:

Wolves: Willy Boly is a doubt with a lack of match fitness. Hwang Hee-Chan and Jonny are not expected back for another 10 days due to a lack of match fitness. Yerson Mosquera also has fitness issues after a long lay off but could be back at the end of the month. Pedro Neto is still a month away from a return.

Arsenal: Takehiro Tomiyasu has a calf injury and is only 50/50 to make this game and will be assessed.

Wolves vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Last season Wolves won this fixture 2-1 and indeed they done the double over the Gunners.

Arsenal have won 14 of the last 20 meetings against Wolves.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Wolves vs Arsenal Prediction:

By the time this game is played Arsenal will have known if Manchester United and West Ham who are currently above them won their games. Both clubs will have expected to do so, so the Gunners will need to win this match to stay in the mix.

Arsenal have 36 points but only 13 of those have come away from home and the fact is that the club have lost 50% of their games on the road. Playing away just like it was in the final seasons under Wenger is still Arsenal’s Achilles heel. Make no mistake Arteta will understand that this will be a tough and physical game for his side.

Wolves look good for the win where we compare their form and even though historically they have a poor record over Arsenal they have won the last two games. It will be important though that the break hasn’t affected the team who really found their groove in recent weeks, this is a huge game for the home side who could make their mark in trying to finish in the top 4 too, or simply more realistically a Europa League place.
