It's nearly time - and pretty much every football fan in England and even across the world will be waiting with bated breath for the start of the English Premier League, with Burnley taking on Man City on Friday 11th August. But who will win? Not the game - but the entire league?
Last season started with everyone thinking it would be between Liverpool and Man City, but Arsenal led for a long time and was pipped to the post by the reigning champions at the last minute, whilst Liverpool couldn't even make the top 4. So, anything could happen.
That being said, who do we think will win this season? Let's take a look at some of the favourites…
Manchester City
Having secured five out of the last six Premier League titles, Manchester City is on a pretty remarkable winning streak. As the 2023/24 season approaches, it will come as no surprise that, yet again, they top the bookies' favourites.
No matter where you look, odds indicate that the club has a high probability of City achieving their fourth consecutive title - and should they do so, it would make them the first team in Premier League history to accomplish this remarkable achievement.
Arsenal
Arsenal enjoyed an unexpectedly impressive 2022/23 season, showing some pretty serious improvement under Mikel Arteta. Although they fell at the last hurdle, their progress would still suggest that they remain strong contenders this year.
With a pool of talented young players on the rise and the prospect of playing in the Champions League next season, Arsenal should have no trouble attracting top talent to The Emirates. The signing of Declan Rice for a substantial £105m should strengthen the squad even more. From being 40/1 outsiders at the start of the 2022/23 season, Arsenal's Premier League odds have now shortened significantly, making them the second favourites to clinch their first league title since 2004.
Liverpool
The 2022/23 season proved to be an unusual one for Liverpool, as they began with high expectations as 5/2 favourites to win the Premier League. However, despite a much-improved performance towards the end, the Reds couldn't even manage a top-four finish - which was seriously disappointing for the fans.
Jurgen Klopp has had a pretty important summer - and he has already taken the first steps by signing World Cup winner Alexis MacAllister to bolster the squad. He will certainly be looking for a much better 2023/24 season.
Manchester United
Last year, Manchester United was considered a long shot at 28/1 to win the 2022/23 Premier League. However, they defied the odds and, under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, secured an unexpected 3rd place finish in the league and even clinched the League Cup title. They also finished as runners-up in the FA Cup.
Following their recent improvement, Man Utd's chances have now improved significantly, and they are potentially the fourth favourites to win their first league title in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Newcastle
Who'd have predicted Newcastle would be up on the list a few years ago? Newcastle has experienced the most significant shift in odds from the previous season to the upcoming one.
Eddie Howe's remarkable work with the team over the past year has been nothing short of a miracle! Last season, you'd have found odds of 100/1 on The Magpies winning the title, but now, as the new season approaches, they enter with much higher expectations!
Chelsea
It's hard to ignore Chelsea's struggle last season. They just about managed to stumble over the finish line in the Premier League. In fact, many might describe it as a woeful campaign, and it would be pretty hard to argue with the fact… They couldn't even make the top 10, marking the first time since 1994 that The Blues finished in the bottom half of the top-flight table.
However, we are expecting better things this season and, under the guidance of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, they are now being given much better odds of making a comeback and lifting the title in the upcoming season, with no European distractions to contend with.
