What next for Rice and Kane?

There are two summer transfer sagas from the Premier League both involving highly respected England internationals, but how will this one play out? First up is Tottenham's Harry Kane who has been linked away from the club for the past three seasons, and yet here he still is. It did seem that at one point Kane would join Manchester City but that dream move died the moment Erling Haaland was signed. Kane, who scored 30 goals in the league last season and was just six shy of Haaland, has been one of the outstanding centre forwards of the past decade. Given that he is scoring goals on a consistent basis for Tottenham one can only wonder how many more goals he could score at a more ambitious and bigger club?

It was thought that Kane would see out the remainder of his career in England but news has emerged this week that he could go to Germany and join Bayern Munich. That feels like a surprise and previously it was thought that only a move to Real Madrid would be enough to shift the player from the Premier League. Is Real Madrid off the cards though? It seems that the club are chasing Kylian Mbappe to join this summer but if that was to fall through they may go for Kane and that is why this is a transfer saga that could go on for months. But seeing Kane at Madrid with Jude Bellingham would be quite something. The pair obviously know each other well for England and it could be quite a coup for Madrid. For now Bayern has emerged as one of the favourites to snap up Kane but money could be the telling factor. Bayern have come in with a £60m bid but Tottenham owner Daniel Levy will probably hold out for £90m plus. Kane still has a year left on his contract so there is pressure to possibly cash in on Kane now or he will go for free next summer. Levy has been stubborn in keeping Kane but the funds would be welcomed and maybe Levy needs to cut that umbilical cord with Kane. Kane has given everything to the club and broke the personal goal scoring club record. But trophies have eluded him and it is obviously apparent that he wants to win a few before he hangs up his boots.

But where will Kane end up? In staying in the Premier League Kane would surely break Alan Shearer's goals record which stands at 260, Kane has 213 and will turn 30 by the start of the new season. He does have time on his side and could take a foreign trip and still return to England to complete the record before his retirement. We have seen a shift in sports science and how football players can now play until their late 30s or even early 40s in some cases. Let's see how this one plays out but with trophies only really guaranteed at Manchester City, Kane may well up and leave England.

Harry Kane's club next season: Tottenham 2.00, Bayern Munich 2.00, Real Madrid 9.00, Manchester United 13.00, PSG 25.00

In the other transfer saga that is heating up Declan Rice's new club is undecided. We do know unlike Kane that Rice will certainly leave West Ham this was underlined when the Hammers finally won a trophy in the Europa Conference League and Rice can hold his head up high and know how well he did for the club, his legendary status with them is fully intact. A move away has been strongly hinted all season and it will be one that will mean a huge pay day for Rice. But just where will he end up?

The front runners seem to be Arsenal and Manchester City. City as champions and with their pedigree would feel like the obvious choice for Rice and surely trophies would follow. The temptation to be coached by Pep Guardiola, play alongside Kevin De Bruyne and feed balls into Erling Haaland, who would not want that? At the same time Rice is a family man and a switch to Arsenal would mean staying in London and no uprooting of his family, it may also show a lack of ambition though. That isn't to say that Arsenal do not possess that and they came incredibly close this season to winning the league and look to be heading in the right direction, but City are the finished product, who knows if Arsenal will go backwards next season? Hammers fans would most probably be happier if he didn't join a rival London club too, but we will have to see again how this plays out. One could suggest that Arsenal have already been playing games coming in with an initial bid of £80m, the Hammers have always quoted Rice at £100m or above. City then showed interest but the Gunners have upped their bid to £105m. This is a transfer that may well end earlier than Kane's and the key to that would be if City pull out. One of course has to remember that Rice's preference is to join Arsenal and they will remain as the favourites.

Declan Rice next club: Arsenal 1.25, Manchester City 3.25, remain at West Ham 21.00, Manchester United 34.00, Chelsea 34.00
