West Ham vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 27th February 2022
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

There is just one game for Sunday in the Premier League but it could tell us more about the top 4 when West Ham and Wolves meet in London.

After just one win in their last five games it seems fair to say that West Ham have blown their top 4 chances. The Hammers come into the weekend in 6th place and are four points behind Manchester United who are currently in 4th. The problem is all of the other teams around David Moyes side. Arsenal have two games in hand, Tottenham have two games in hand, and Wolves have played a game less and the writing looks on the wall for a club who could well find themselves as low as 8th very soon. At the same time if Champions League football isn’t possible for the Londoners they will still aim to finish in a European place and quite frankly if they did end up in 8th that would feel a huge let down on what has been a promising season for Moyes side overall.

On the bright side West Ham are unbeaten in their last three games with their last defeat coming against Manchester United a month ago. But points have still been dropped since then as they have drawn their last two games in a row against Leicester and West Ham.

Wolves have been very impressive in the last six weeks and they are in seventh place and two points behind their hosts. So they have a huge chance to go past them and keep their top 4 hopes alive. While form has been good the club have lost 2 games from their last four and they both came against Arsenal home and away. Bruno Lage’s side last faced Arsenal at the Emirates and were leading the game with 8 minutes left but the Gunners came back to win 2-1 in dramatic style and that would obviously have been a body blow to the club, how will they react for this game so soon after?

On the road Lage’s side have the 5th best record in the league winning seven from 13 games played and their recent defeat against Arsenal ended a 4 game winning streak.

Team News:

West Ham: Vladimir Coufal has a hernia and is set to miss the next couple of weeks. Manuel Lanzini has a slight knock and will need to be assessed. Arthur Masuaku and Angelo Ogbonna are out long term with knee injuries.

Wolves: Nelson Semedo has a muscle injury and has been ruled out though he is the only absentee for the club.

West Ham vs Wolves Head to Head:

Last season West Ham won this fixture 4-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Wolves won 1-0.

Wolves have won 5 of the last seven meetings.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

West Ham vs Wolves Prediction:

This could be a great game and there is a lot to sell on it. You get the feeling that whoever loses this game is out of the top 4 chase. It does look very likely that the Hammers are out already but this game would surely confirm it. As for Wolves we witnessed how the club lost to Arsenal at home and bounced back by beating Tottenham away. This is a team with a lot of mental strength and they are going to give the Hammers a very difficult game.

Recently Wolves have a very good record over West Ham too and they are a very good price to win this game. We expect this to be a close match but will back the away side to get at least a point. Raul Jimenez has scored quite a few goals against West Ham and we will back him to score in this game also. It will be an open match but it is hard not to think Bruno Lage’s team won’t get something from this encounter.

West Ham vs Wolves Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+0.5 Wolves) at 1.83

Anytime goalscorer: Raul Jimenez at 3.75
