West Ham vs Wolves: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 20th June 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

Only goal difference separates West Ham from the relegation zone in another season which has been disappointing for the east London team. David Moyes has not been able to improve the team and at times has genuinely struggled.

Has the break in football helped the club? Unquestionably one would have to say yes even before West Ham kick a ball because their form was heading to the Championship. They had lost 3 of their last four games and have earned just 4 points from their last 15.

At home the Hammers have the 3rd to worst record losing 7 games and winning just 15 points from a possible 42. Though they have lost just once in their last four home matches. Their last match here was a 3-1 victory over Southampton.

Wolves are having another solid season and are unbeaten in their last five. They are in 7th place and if they can win here and results around them are favourable they could well climb into 5th. Their last match ended 0-0 v Brighton and away from home the club have the 5th best record in the league losing just 3 games from 14. They are on a 3 game unbeaten streak away from home and their last match on the road was in London where they beat Tottenham 3-2.

Team News:

West Ham: The Hammers have no major injury concerns going into this match

West Ham vs Wolves Head to Head:

Earlier in the season Wolves beat West Ham 2-0.

Wolves have won the last 3 meetings in a row against West Ham.

In the league West Ham have not beaten Wolves since 2011.

West Ham vs Wolves Prediction:

Wolves are the better side, better organisation and players. But the break has been a long one and we can expect both teams to show signs of being rusty. West Ham fans are known to be very vocal, not having them there could take some of the pressure off the players, the fans expect a lot from their club, which has yet to materialise.

If Wolves can come here and control the tempo of the game then they have the quality to win the match. Raul Jimenez loves playing against West Ham and we would be tempted to put him down to score at the weekend. This is a big game for West Ham, they have had the chance to wipe the slate clean, forget about the season and make the next few weeks count. They also have another advantage in that their squad is fully fit now having had as much as 10 players out injured before the pandemic. We expect to see a good game but if the Hammers are not tactical, Wolves could really punish them.
