West Ham vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 20th October 2018
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Olympic Stadium

Match Preview:

There is no love lost between these two London teams and we should be in for a treat when they go head to head at London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After being rejuvenated in the past month West Ham were given a reality check by Brighton and went to the AMEX Stadium and lost 1-0. The Hammers had their chances but it wasn’t to be, however Manuel Pellegrini’s side should certainly be motivated by this game. Before the Brighton defeat West Ham had gone 3 games unbeaten and at home they haven’t lost since the beginning of September.

Tottenham started the season well, then dipped in form, losing 3 games in a row in all competitions but are now back in good form having won their last 3 games in a row. In beating Cardiff, Huddersfield and Brighton the club are in 5th place on 18 points and just two points off of the leading pace, but they haven’t been completely convincing in either of those games. However 3 points is 3 points and Tottenham are indeed doing a superb job given that they didn't buy a single new player in the summer.

The bad news for West Ham is that Tottenham are currently the best away team in the league where from a possible 15 points they have 12. Their only loss has come against Watford on the road.

Team News:

West Ham: Andy Carroll has been back training with the club and could be assessed ahead of this game after missing the beginning of the season. Robert Snodgrass should be available after suffering a minor ankle injury on international duty

Tottenham: Dele Alli is set to return although no updates have been given about the player’s availability yet. Moussa Dembele has a knock but has returned to training. Christian Eriksen should be back in the squad after his abdominal injury, and Danny Rose could also be called back up after his groin problems earlier this month

West Ham vs Tottenham Head to Head:

The last time the teams played at West Ham, Tottenham won 3-2.

3 of the last 5 fixtures has ended in the correct score of 3-2. Twice for Tottenham and once for West Ham.

Based on recent results there is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

West Ham vs Tottenham Prediction:

This game will tell us everything we need to know about Pellegrini’s side. Because after struggling to beat the so called weaker teams this season, West Ham stepped up to the plate against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. Can they do it against a big rival?

On paper Tottenham should get the three points, but they will have one eye on their impending Champions League match away to PSV, four days after this game. Lose that and Tottenham would be realistically out of the competition and it will be playing on their minds. An energetic and passionate West Ham can earn something from this game.
