West Ham vs Sheffield Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 30th September 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham are coming off losing two games in a row but those defeats were against Manchester City and Liverpool and you get the sense the team wouldn’t have lost much sleep over that. They would have expected defeats and the Hammers did play some good football in those encounters. The pressure cooker which has been on David Moyes for most of his tenure at the club has evaporated for now but it is games like these ones and being at home that are must wins for the Londoners.

In midweek West Ham got the job done in the EFL Cup as they beat Lincoln 1-0 away from home. But the main focus will shift to the Premier League now as they try to get back on track. As it stands the Hammers have 10 points and are in 7th place and this weekend will be all about not losing too much contact with the top six sides. The club's last home game ended in a 3-1 loss against Manchester City.

Sheffield United oh dear, but let’s look at the positives which have to be it can’t get much worse than losing 8-0 at home. The Blades should be charged up in a sense not to go down like that again this season but it was a result that has left the club in last place on goal difference. This seems like a tricky encounter as they try to win their first game of the season but football can throw up a lot of surprises and let’s remember United were just a few minutes away from beating Tottenham away from home. Indeed the Blades have had bad luck and their positioning isn’t completely down to them being poor but they will need to pick themselves up quickly.

Team News:

West Ham: The only injury concern for the Hammers coming into this game is Aaron Cresswell who has a hamstring injury but could be assessed

Sheffield United: Rhian Brewster and John Fleck have both recovered from injury but remain doubtful because of a lack of match fitness and will be assessed. George Baldock is set to miss out again due to a calf injury. Gustavo Hamer has a knock, Daniel Jebbison was last reported as being ill and there have been no updates since. Ben Osborn is out with a groin injury as is Max Lowe with his ankle. Rhys Norrington-Davies isn’t expected back as he struggles with fitness issues

West Ham vs Sheffield Utd Head to Head:

It’s been over two years since the clubs last played here and that ended in a 3-0 win for West Ham.

Sheffield United have won five of the last 10 meetings, West Ham have 3 wins and there has been two draws.

There is an 80% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

West Ham vs Sheffield Utd Prediction:

West Ham will be eager to get back to winning ways and they have more than enough quality to do so here. The Hammers have come on leap and bounds and they just seem more positive and aggressive in their play over the past six months. There is a good swagger about the club that has been missing in the past and we think with the quality they have in midfield and attack they should find a way to win this game. The 1.44 being quoted isn’t the best price because we expect to see some reaction from the Blades so it could be a very interesting start to the game.

This is a game that has seen a high rate of under 2.5 goals but we expect to see some at the weekend and this is a market that should be backed. Jarrod Bowen has looked sharp and hungry and we will take him on to continue his goals. The Blades can play their part here but as the game goes on we expect it will become very difficult for them.

West Ham vs Sheffield Utd Betting Tips:

West Ham to beat Sheffield United at 1.44

Anytime goalscorer: Jarrod Bowen at 3.00

Over 2.5 goals at 1.62
