West Ham vs Newcastle: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 8th October 2023
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

It’s been a good start for West Ham who come into this weekend in seventh place and have 13 points and any fan would have taken that at the beginning of the season. There was even doubt if manager David Moyes would still be in charge but it seems that every time a question has been asked about him and his P45 papers have been dusted down he has found that an answer. Granted the Hammers have lost two times recently but that against Manchester City and Liverpool who could well end up resuming their battle this season for 1st and 2nd places.

It was important for the Hammers to get over their recent losses when they hosted bottom club Sheffield United last weekend and they won that game 2-0. Moyes side have also beaten Chelsea here 3-1 and you get the feeling that they will relish trying to beat another big spending club like Newcastle at the weekend.

After kicking off their Champions League return by drawing 0-0 away to AC Milan they battered French champions PSG 4-1 at home in amazing scenes at St James’ Park. It has been a fantastic start in a very tough group for the Magpies. In the league after a sluggish start despite hammering Aston Villa the club are now finding their way and have won their last three games in a row and are in 8th place and they would shoot past West Ham with a win here. Newcastle’s last game in the league was a 2-0 victory over Burnley and their last away game ended in an emphatic fantastic style when they crushed Sheffield United 8-0!

Team News:

West Ham: Aaron Cresswell is out with a long term hamstring injury and is the only concern for the Hammers ahead of this game

Newcastle: CAnthony Gordon is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Joelinton is 50/50 to return following his hamstring injury. Harvey Barnes is set to be out until the end of the year because of his toe injury. Sven Botman will miss out again but could return in 2 weeks due to a knee injury. Emil Krafth has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and won’t return for at least two weeks. Alex Murphy has a knock and will have to be assessed, Callum Wilson is only 50/50 to return following his minor hamstring injury, Joseph Willock won’t return just yet as he recovers from his Achilles injury

West Ham vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Newcastle won this fixture last season 5-1.

It’s over two years ago that West Ham were able to beat Newcastle.

Both teams to score has happened in the last five games in a row.

West Ham vs Newcastle Prediction:

Newcastle will be absolutely buzzing coming into this game after embarrassing Kylian Mbappe and company in midweek and underlining why another season of Champions League football will come and go and PSG still won’t be any nearer to winning the one trophy that they want. Newcastle have also found form although manager Eddie Howe will have one eye on the injury list which seems to be growing although quite a fair few players are near to a return. He will be disappointed with Anthony Gordon though who misses out because he has already picked up five yellow cards this season and Gordon has started well for the club. Like with his former club Everton Gordon kept picking up yellow’s and it will do him more harm than good in the long run.

West Ham raise their game against better equipped sides but at the same time they have European football to contend with now in midweek and Newcastle would have had an extra day's rest also. The Hammers will not want to be reminded of what happened here last season and while we don’t expect such a large score like that Newcastle can still walk away here with the points.

West Ham vs Newcastle Betting Tips:
