West Ham vs Newcastle: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 5th April 2023
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham are in 14th place coming into this week but that can all change with games being played in midweek plus the fact that 14th feels like 17th this season given that even though the club has 27 points they are just 1 point from the bottom three. A win over Newcastle would be a huge boost but the visitors will be seen as the favourites to take the spoils given their recent form.

West Ham have at least picked up 7 points from their last 12 and have gone their last two games unbeaten after a draw against Aston Villa and a win over Southampton. The win over bottom club Southampton was a must win and it ended up being a nervous match as the Hammers finally seen out a narrow 1-0 victory. At home it’s been a mixed bag for David Moyes side with six wins but five defeats however they have remained undefeated in their last five here and that includes holding Chelsea to a 1-1 draw.

When all looked down after losing back to back games against Liverpool and Manchester City there was a threat that Newcastle’s season was going to unravel and perhaps tiredness would set in, but the team have come roaring back to win their last 3 games and shoot up to 3rd place. A top four finish is far from assured given that themselves, Tottenham and Manchester United all have the same points (50) and going into this week only goal difference is seperating them. Newcastle looked very impressive last weekend as they beat Manchester United 2-0 at home and will come here very confident. Away form is not brilliant as Eddie Howe’s side have been dogged with draws but it is only one defeat from their last five but overall the Magpies has the 3rd best away record in the league with 21 points won from 39.

Team News:

West Ham: The Hammers have just one concern and that is Gianluca Scamacca who misses the game due to a knee injury and isn’t expected back for 2-3 weeks.

Newcastle: Miguel Almiron is out with a thigh injury at least for another 3 weeks. Emil Krafth looks likely to miss the rest of the season with his knee injury.

West Ham vs Newcastle Head to Head:

The last two meetings have both ended 1-1.

The last 4 meetings has witnessed both teams to score.

West Ham are undefeated in the last 3 meetings.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

West Ham vs Newcastle Prediction:

West Ham are very good at raising their game and making it difficult for any oppenent at their home stadium and while some may feel this could be 3 points for Newcastle that is far from assured. There is plenty of quality in this West Ham side despite their struggles so far and the home fans will make a lot of noise. However Newcastle have shown a lot of self belief and they will play their part in what should be a cracking game of football. We expect end to end play and despite the Magpies having almost double the points of their hosts we expect it to be a close one but will side with the away team whilst covering the draw on the refund.

The better market rather than the win market will be the goalscorers as we expect to see a few goals as the game continues to open up, but it could well see goals flying in in the first half too. We are ready to see a fascinating game where the Hammers are fighting for survival and the Magpies are fighting for a Champions League place, this should be fun.
