West Ham vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 2nd March 2019
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Olympic Stadium

Match Preview:

So West Ham lost to Manchester City in midweek as expected but many would have been surprised by the final score which ended 1-0 and that goal was from the penalty spot. Whilst City actually played very well, The Hammers defended better than expected and they should be able to take something from that game than had they caved in and lost by 5 or 6 goals.

The Hammers have been strong at home and have gone their last 4 games undefeated. Indeed they are unbeaten here in 2019, with their last game being a 3-1 victory over Fulham. The club could go ahead of Everton at the weekend depending on The Toffees result over Liverpool and could be just within a point of 7th as they can start to mount a challenge for a European place.

Newcastle are in 13th and a win would take them just 2 points behind West Ham. Whilst The Magpies look safe this season this win would probably confirm that to the club. Form has been good with back to back wins coming against Burnley and Huddersfield though these were both at home, but they have just 1 defeat in their past five games.

On the road tells a very different story where Newcastle have won just 2 games all season, and none this year. They have picked up just 2 points from their last 15 available.

Team News:

West Ham: Marko Arnautovic will be hoping to be back after missing the Manchester City defeat with illness. Aaron Cresswell has a broken toe, although has been pencilled in for a return date at the weekend, but this might just come too soon for him. Ben Johnson reported a calf injury but will be assessed before the game

Newcastle: No new injuries coming into this game for The Magpies

West Ham vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Earlier this season West Ham beat Newcastle at St James’ Park 3-0.

However in this fixture last season Newcastle beat West Ham 3-2.

Since 2010 Newcastle have just 2 wins in London when playing The Hammers.

West Ham vs Newcastle Prediction:

This could be a tight game because it is a match where Newcastle will have to defend well and a game that they will be determined not to lose. This is why we will opt for the match to finish in a draw. A draw would be a decent enough result for West Ham, and a very good point for Newcastle. A lot of possession might be around the midfield and we don’t expect to see a free flowing game of football.

West Ham vs Newcastle Betting Tips:

A draw at 2.80

Under 2.5 goals at 1.91
