England Premier League
Saturday 5th December 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium
Match Preview:
West Ham had to ride their luck against Aston Villa last Monday evening but they scored the goals and picked up three points to move into 5th place after a solid run.
The Hammers were one of the clubs being tipped to struggle this season but it is clear that manager David Moyes has been working hard behind the scenes to get the best out of his players. The club have only lost once in their last five games and come into this encounter having won their last 3.
What may surprise you is that currently the Hammers have the 2nd best home record in the Premier League, behind only Liverpool and have won 10 points from 15 available. Moyes side have remained unbeaten at home since losing on the opening weekend of the season to Newcastle.
It will be interesting to see how the Hammers react to having fans back at the stadium. With London in tier 2, the club can have 2,000 fans in attendance.
Manchester United are either very good or very poor with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge, there doesn’t seem to be any mixed form. Presently United have won 3 games in a row and staged a fantastic comeback against Southampton to win the game 3-2 after being 2-0 down last weekend. Edinson Cavani had a superb game scoring 2 goals and assisting another and he may start his first league game for the club rather than the bench.
United’s good form has seen the club climb to 9th place and they could over take their hosts with a win. Despite a slow start from the Red Devils they are the only club with a 100% away record, played 4 won 4. This is a danger for West Ham but at the same time they will be hoping that United’s brilliant away form will have to end at one point.
Manchester United did suffer a blow in midweek in the Champions League when they lost 3-1 at home to PSG. This puts their chances of qualifying for the knock out rounds in doubt and their fate will come down to the final group game.
Team News:
West Ham: The only concern for the Hammers is Andriy Yarmolenko who has missed the last two games with Covid-19. But the player is being pencilled in to return for this match.
Manchester United: Marcus Rashford has a shoulder injury and will face a late test. Marcos Rojo still has fitness issues and doesn’t look like he will make this match.
West Ham vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season West Ham won this fixture 2-0.
There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
From the last six meetings played at West Ham, Manchester United have just 1 victory.
West Ham vs Man Utd Prediction:
On paper Manchester United have the better team and the international stars and the Red Devils are in good form but West Ham have earned a lot of respect and credit so far this season and the home team will feel they can win this match.
Not only are the Hammers at home but they have had extra rest than United and usually perform well at home against them. The defence in recent weeks has looked more solid too and this is something that Moyes must have been working on.
Solskjaer’s side have the quality to score a few goals and win this, but West Ham always raise their game against the big six clubs and we think they can spoil United’s good run once again.
