West Ham vs Liverpool: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 31st January 2021
Kick off at
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham have been one of the most impressive teams this season and every time you think they will hit a bad patch they roar on. Keep this up and the Hammers will be playing in Europe next season.

David Moyes side come into this game in 5th place and have won their last 4 games. They beat Crystal Palace away from home 3-2 in midweek and have only lost twice in their last 10 games. At home the Hammers have the 3rd best record in the Premier League with 18 points won from a possible 30 and they haven’t tasted defeat at home in almost two months when they lost to Manchester United.

The pressure is on Liverpool because their title could be slipping away from them with how consistent Manchester City have been over the past few weeks. If City have won their game on Saturday then Liverpool come into this one 7 points behind Pep Guardiola’s team.

Liverpool have had some poor form in January but looked back to their best in midweek as they went to Tottenham and beat them 3-1. It was a huge win against a potential top 4 rival but more than that a statement to tell the league that their slump is over. The likes of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane scored and it was really needed for the club who had failed to score in their previous 4 league games. The Reds also limited Tottenham to just 2 shots on target the whole game.

Jurgen Klopp will feel very relived after the Tottenham win and will come into this match as will the whole team with a lot of confidence. However the majority of Liverpool’s away games have ended in a draw with 50% doing so. Though Liverpool have won 2 from their last four away games.

Team News:

West Ham: Darren Randolph could return after his knock and Arthur Masuaku is out long term with his knee.

Liverpool: Fabinho is out for at least a week with a muscle injury. Diogo Jota looks like he will miss out though is pencilled in to return in a few days time. Joel Matip has an ankle injury and looks a big doubt for the game. Joseph Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are out long term.

West Ham vs Liverpool Head to Head:

Last season Liverpool won this fixture 2-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Liverpool won 2-1.

It’s been 10 games in the league since West Ham last beat Liverpool.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

West Ham vs Liverpool Prediction:

West Ham have been very solid and are scoring goals and defending well and nothing less than a vintage display for Liverpool will see them win the game. The Hammers also up their game against the better sides and they will be focused for this match.

Liverpool though look too strong and scoring 3 goals away to a Jose Mourinho team has to be respected. Liverpool look back after their poor form however it is true that on the whole the champions have been very underwhelming on the road.

West Ham certainly have a chance to make an impact on the game and shouldn’t be totally ruled out but their record against the Reds is quite dire, and it would be a surprise even for a well organised side that West Ham have been to come away with victory. Liverpool are a decent price also and it will probably be worth the risk to back the away team who need to win to keep their title hopes alive.

West Ham vs Liverpool Betting Tips:

Liverpool to beat West Ham at 1.72

Anytime goalscorer: Sadio Mane at 2.10

Both teams to score at 1.57
