England Premier League
Sunday 7th November 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium
Match Preview:
Normally a meeting between these two clubs would be an easy call- a Liverpool win, and whilst the 2020 champions should still be regarded as the favourites to bag the points you have to give credit to how David Moyes has transformed this West Ham side.
West Ham will be relishing this game and come into it in 4th place, 3 points ahead of Manchester United and with an extra game to play. On recent form there isn’t a better team in the league and the Hammers have won their last 3 games. In the Europa League they got a 2-2 result away to Gent which was also Moyes 1,000th game as a manager. Everything is looking up for the club and the players are absolutely believing in their manager.
The Hammers have won 60% of their games so far though a win here would be a major scalp. Despite how they have started the season perhaps there should be some caution given that it is just 1 win at home in their last four encounters. That victory came in their last home game which finished 1-0 against Tottenham.
Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 in midweek in the Champions League to continue their good form. Last weekend though felt like an off one as they could only draw at home 2-2 against Brighton even though they were leading that game 2-0.
However away from home the Reds have the best record in the league and have earned 13 points from their last 15. Only a 3-3 draw is the blemish on their record and those three goals conceded are the only ones on their travels so far. The Reds are also scoring almost 4 goals per game on average and have scored 10 goals in their last two away games beating both Manchester United and Watford 5-0.
Team News:
West Ham: Alex Kral has recovered from illness and could return but has some fitness issues. Apart from that the Hammers have a full team available.
Liverpool: Roberto Firmino is injured with his hamstring though it is unclear how bad it is. Joseph Gomez has a calf injury though isn’t thought to be severe. Curtis Jones is a doubt with an eye injury. James Milner is not due back for another two weeks at least because of his hamstring.
West Ham vs Liverpool Head to Head:
Last season this fixture finished 3-1 to Liverpool.
Liverpool have won the last 4 meetings in a row.
It’s been 11 games since West Ham beat Liverpool going back 5 years.
The last 3 games in a row has seen 12 goals scored in this fixture.
West Ham vs Liverpool Prediction:
West Ham have a chance to cause what would still be seen as an upset, but this is a tough game for the home side. Liverpool have been helped greatly by playing in midweek and beating Atletico Madrid and that result should have taken away any doubts over form regarding how Brighton were able to come back.
The Hammers don’t sit back anymore against clubs like Liverpool and that is why we could be in for a unique attacking treat to wrap up another weekend of the Premier League.
We will be opting to see an away win though and the extra motivation and advantage that the Reds have is having seen league leaders Chelsea drop 2 points at home, Liverpool have the opportunity to cut the Blues lead to just 1 point and move back into 2nd place.
