England Premier League
Saturday 28th December 2019
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Olympic Stadium
Match Preview:
There will be calls again for the sacking of Manuel Pellegrini after West Ham lost on Boxing Day against Crystal Palace 2-1, although it was a last minute goal that defeated the Hammers. The bigger picture though is that the club have lost 3 of their last four games and are now in 17th position just 1 point above the relegation zone. True they do have a game in hand over their rivals but it is against Liverpool.
A win for the Hammers could move them up to 14th place depending on other results but the club need to find consistency to stop flirting with the bottom three. Pellegrini’s side has the 4th worst home record earning just 7 points from a possible 24 and they have lost their last 3 games at Olympic Stadium, conceding 9 goals in that time. Quite simply whilst the club have shown promise and won games when they have had to save the skin of the manager, they have been very poor this season.
Leicester seem to have hit a wall. They are still a top 3 side no one can deny that but they have gone their last 3 games in a row without a win after such fantastic form. It feels as though the Foxes simply cannot mix it with the big boys and have lost against Manchester City and Liverpool recently, conceding 7 goals. They were hopelessly outclassed by Liverpool on Boxing Day losing 4-0 at home and they even drew against Norwich.
Brendan Rodgers will need to rally his players because the objective has to be to qualify the side for the Champions League. Currently they have a 10 point safety net but we are only at the half way stage of the season and a lot can happen in that time.
Leicester have lost just once away in their last 5 games and have the 4th best record in the league.
Team News:
West Ham: Aaron Cresswell is suspended for this game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Lukasz Fabianski is nearing a return and is being tipped to take some part in this game, although nothing has been confirmed as of yet
Leicester: No new injuries for the club ahead of this game
West Ham vs Leicester Head to Head:
Last season this game finished 2-2.
Leicester have not beaten West Ham going back to 5 games in 2017.
4 of the last 5 meetings have seen both teams to score.
West Ham vs Leicester Prediction:
On paper this looks like a Leicester victory but one has to question the club. True they have had some difficult matches but conceding like they have would have taken something out of the club and they may just have been winded by it all. Time and again this season when West Ham have needed the win to save the managers job they have, witness the Chelsea and Southampton wins. We think the Hammers could get something from this game and cause Leicester problems especially if they get off to a positive start, which makes it a tricky game to call. Therefore we will instead back both teams to score and the in form Jamie Vardy to get on the scoresheet.
West Ham vs Leicester Betting Tips:
Both teams to score at 1.57
Anytime goalscorer: Jamie Vardy at 1.83
