West Ham vs Leicester: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 23rd August 2021
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

The Monday night game should be an enthralling one as we have two teams who had very good seasons, finishing 5th and 6th respectively. Both sides have also started this campaign with wins so this match seems perfectly set up.

West Ham are trying to build on their incredible achievement from last season where they earned more than 20 points more than the season before that, finished in 6th place, and qualified for the Europa League. For a team who either finish mid table or dice with relegation, last season felt like a revelation.

Hammers fans will be hoping that the good times can continue and this seemed evident last weekend when they came back from a goal down away to Newcastle to beat the Magpies 4-2. Scoring 4 goals on the road is no mean feat and the Hammers are putting together a very good side. Many of their rivals would be happy to have the likes of Michail Antonio, Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek in their side and there is no denying this is a good period for David Moyes side.

Even though Leicester just missed out on a Champions League place for the second season in a row they did prove their worth last term with some outstanding results and performances and topped that by winning the FA Cup. Leicester simply cannot be written off to perform and remain a strong and stable side.

The Foxes did have to weather the storm in their opening day fixture at home to Wolves but they came through it with a 1-0 victory and that man Jamie Vardy got the winner. One could presume that both teams objectives this season is to improve on the last with maybe one of them trying to launch a battle for a top 4 finish this season and of course have deep cup runs once again.

Team News:

West Ham: The Hammers have no injury concerns coming into this game.

Leicester: Ryan Bertrand is ill and won’t feature in this game. Jonny Evans is ruled out for another 2-3 weeks with a foot injury. Wesley Fofana is out long term with a leg injury sustained in a pre-season friendly game.

West Ham vs Leicester Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 3-2 to West Ham and indeed the Hammers did the double over the Foxes.

West Ham have beaten Leicester just 3 times from the last 10 meetings.

The last 5 meetings in a row have seen over 2.5 goals.

West Ham vs Leicester Prediction:

One thing is certain this will be an entertaining game and hopefully complete with goals. History says so and being that this is the beginning of the season both teams should go for all out attack and try and get the win, there will be little caution here.

For most clubs, playing in front of their home fans after 18 months has raised the level of their play. For West Ham this will be a burning question. For example is it no coincidence that the Hammers have had their best season in 35 years where fans have not been able to attend stadiums? It is no secret that fans can get on the clubs back and that it can affect players. Having said that for Hammers fans at least after the last 9 months there is nothing to complain about and they will be supportive of their club in this present time.

It’s hard to go against the Hammers at this time after just scoring 4 goals up at Newcastle but Leicester will be a tougher test, but at home we will back them to get a win and continue their good start, but with the draw covered for extra security.
