West Ham vs Leeds: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 16th January 2022
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

This game is a repeat of last weekend’s FA Cup third round tie in which West Ham eased to a 2-0 victory over Leeds and the Hammers will start as the favourites to win this duel also.

After a bumpy six weeks David Moyes side come into this game having won their last 3 and could be finding form just at the right time. With their victory over Norwich in midweek the club are now in 4th place with 37 points but it feels half the league are chasing them down for that final Champions League place. In reality it’s 3 clubs, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United and they have all played less games than the Hammers, the only objective for Moyes’ team is to keep on winning.

Not only are West Ham doing that they are also scoring goals and have netted 9 times in their last 3 games. At home the Hammers have won 50% of their games and have earned 10 points from their last 15 on offer. The club also need to take advantage of the north London derby on Sunday and will be hoping for perhaps a draw in that game.

Leeds have an 8 point advantage over the bottom three but at the same time some teams below them have played less games. The club are certainly not out of the woods as far as relegation goes and last weekend they were dumped out of the FA Cup by their same opponents West Ham as mentioned above. Marcelo Bielsa’s side did end a 3 game losing streak in their last league game as they beat Burnley 3-1 in one of their better performances in a poor season for the club.

Team News:

West Ham: Said Benrahma is on international duty. Mark Noble has a knock and will be assessed but he is only 50/50 to take part. Tomas Soucek is ill and is a doubt for this game. Kurt Zouma looks like he will miss out due to a lack of match fitness.

Leeds: Tyler Roberts is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Rodrigo will be assessed because of fitness issues but is being tipped to return for this game as is Pascal Struijk. Jamie Shackelton and Kalvin Phillips are ruled out and won’t be back for another 4-6 weeks.

West Ham vs Leeds Head to Head:

Last season West Ham won this fixture 2-0 and in their FA Cup game just last week the Hammers won by the same score line.

West Ham have won the last 4 meetings in a row.

West Ham have not lost at home to Leeds since 2002.

There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.

West Ham vs Leeds Prediction:

The problem for Leeds is that they have won just 1 game away from home so far this season and scored just 8 goals. The club has the 4th worst away record in the league and their only win on the road came against bottom club Norwich almost 3 months ago.

We should expect to see a Leeds side with a bit more bite as they go in search of some revenge after last week but the Hammers will like it if Leeds come onto them and we should see open spaces and the London side have proved how they can take advantage of the counter attack.

This is a fixture that has seen both teams to score frequently so we should take that on and after his heroics in the cup game let’s opt to see a goal anytime from Jarrod Bowen.

West Ham vs Leeds Betting Tips:

West Ham to beat Leeds at 1.62

Both teams to score at 1.66

Anytime goalscorer: Jarrod Bowen at 2.75
