England Premier League
Sunday 29th October 2023
Kick off at 1pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium
Match Preview:
West Ham have the 9th best home record in the league although they have only suffered one loss here which was against Manchester City and from 12 points they have won seven. David Moyes' side did start the season well but perhaps their involvement in the Europa League this season is hampering a team who have only won one of their past five games. In their last two games they have drawn 2-2 at home to Newcastle but last weekend they were ‘hammered’ 4-0 away to Aston Villa. There was more misery in midweek as the club lost 2-1 away to Olympiacos.
The Hammers come into this weekend in 9th place and have 14 points and for now they are well in reach of European places and well away from a relegation threat but we should remind ourselves that they have also only picked up four points from the last 15.
It’s been a sad and problematic week for Everton. Long standing chairman Bill Kenwright who was a supporter of the Toffees passed away at the age of 78 and news has leaked that the Premier League have asked that the club are deducted 12 points when a decision is made about the breach of FFP rules.
Everton will have to get back to business and focus on what happens on the pitch but time and again we have seen that if not all is well for clubs off the pitch it can affect the mood and form on it. Form has been mixed after a nightmare start and it would have been refreshing for fans to see recent victories over Brentford and Bournemouth but last weekend Sean Dyche’s side lost 2-0 against Liverpool and they remain just three points above the bottom three and are in 16th place. Away form has seen one win so far from four games and 4 points won from a possible 12.
Team News:
West Ham: Emerson is suspended after his sending off last weekend. Vladimir Coufal could be assessed following a muscle injury.
Everton: Ashley Young is suspended due to his sending off last weekend. Seamus Coleman has recovered from injury but has fitness issues and looks set to miss out once again. Dele Alli is out with his hip and Andre Gomes is still sidelined with a calf injury.
West Ham vs Everton Head to Head:
Last season West Ham won this fixture 2-0.
West Ham have won 3 of the last four meetings.
5 of the last six meetings have seen under 2.5 goals.
West Ham vs Everton Prediction:
In recent times West Ham have had very good results against Everton and the tide has turned between the clubs over the years because playing West Ham normally meant three points for Everton. It could be argued that Everton have played better away this season and perhaps the players are feeling a little less pressure on the road this season. West Ham remain a strong and dangerous team going forward although their form has dipped, so this meeting feels like it could come against two sides who are equal.
The Hammers start as the favourites but perhaps Everton shouldn’t be taken lightly. It’s been interesting to see that even though the Toffees have not had the best of starts they can play good football and can create chances, it’s just about them having some luck too and a good market to back could be on the double chance covering for a possible draw. As far as goals are concerned it seems that the way to go is under goals as that has a very good recent success. For Everton they need to take advantage of the fact that the Hammers travelled to Greece in midweek.
