West Ham vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 9th May 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham and Everton have had a fairly similar season in the sense that they have performed better than perhaps analysts would have suggested at the start of the campaign. Now at the weekend they will come together in a match that could determine a few outcomes.

For West Ham, Leicester’s defeat against Newcastle has really blown open the top four and if the Hammers were to win here they would still stay 5th but could join Chelsea on the same points (61) and be just 2 points behind Leicester with three games to play. This is a huge game for the Hammers and one that they can ill afford to lose or even draw.

Form has been sketchy just at the wrong time for David Moyes team who have lost 2 from their last 3 games however they played some good football last weekend to come back from a goal down to beat Burnley 2-1. West Ham can also point to the fact that they have the 2nd best home record in the league and have won 31 points from a possible 51 and lost only four times here. However their last match at home did end in defeat against Chelsea.

Everton have been poor at home which has blown their chances of a top four place and the clubs objectives now will be to try and finish in a position for the Europa League. Compared to last season there has been improvements at the club but one cannot help but to think there has been frustrations too. Last weekend Everton recorded their 8th loss at home this time against Aston Villa.

The Toffees come into this game in 8th place with 52 points and are 6 points behind West Ham and 9 points behind the top four. Currently Everton would not qualify for the Europa League and they would need Tottenham and Liverpool to drop points. The club would also want to fend off a challenge from Arsenal who are now only 3 points behind.

Team News:

West Ham: Mark Noble will be assessed after his calf injury an could come back for this game. Angelo Ogbonna has a hamstring injury but it is 50/50 if he will recover for this game and will face a late test. Declan Rice looks set to miss another game due to his knee injury.

Everton: James Rodriguez is out with a calf injury but could return next week. He is the only new injury concern at the club.

West Ham vs Everton Head to Head:

The clubs drew 1-1 in this fixture last season.

In the last 6 meetings to take place at West Ham Everton have just 1 win.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Everton have won 3 of the last 5 meetings.

West Ham vs Everton Prediction:

What version of the teams will we see on Sunday? Too many times this season Everton have started games slow and the last time they were in London a few weeks ago to face Arsenal the club did not play well, and yet won the game. West Ham have been known for their quick starts and pacy game and if they can repeat that here then Everton are in trouble even if they have been able to get good results away from home.

Body language can tell you a lot and at this time West Ham look like a team on a mission, and they seem to have a clear plan. For Everton it almost feels like they are getting jaded week in week out and that doesn’t mean to say that Carlo Ancelotti isn’t doing a good job, but to be fair West Ham currently look like the more exciting and creative team and that could be telling on Sunday.
