Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium
Match Preview:
After a poor month the Hammers have turned it round for now by winning back to back games which have come against Burnley and Nottingham Forest. David Moyes' side come into this weekend in 9th place with 20 points and are well in the hunt for another European finish but some of their consistency of past seasons has fallen short this season and the club will be hoping that they can build on their last two wins. At home the Hammers win rate is 50% and they have won 10 points from 18 available. It is just one win from their last three though and again there is a feeling that Moyes isn’t getting everything from his side. In midweek the Hammers made heavy weather of it but beat TSC in their Europa League group game and now head that group going into the last game with Freiburg, with the good news is that they have qualified for the knockout stages.
Crystal Palace are in poor form coming into this game and have lost 4 of their last five games. Perhaps losing against Luton 2-1 in their last game was a new low for the Eagles. In their last home game they conceded 3 goals against struggling Everton and this could be the perfect time to play them. Still Palace are in 12th place with 15 points but they will have to turn form around soon and visiting West Ham is never an easy game. On the road Palace have picked up the majority of their points and have won 3, lost 3 and drawn one. They are goal shy on the road though with seven goals scored but 10 conceded.
Team News:
West Ham: Jarrod Bowen could miss out as he recovers from a minor knee injury and is only 50/50 to make this game. Michail Antonio is expected to miss out with a knee injury but could be in line to return next weekend.
Crystal Palace: Eberechi Eze is 50/50 to return from an ankle injury but remains a major doubt. James Tomkins could miss out again with his calf but may be assessed. Chieck Doucoure, Dean Henderson and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi have both been ruled out.
West Ham vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
Last season West Ham lost this fixture 2-1.
In the last six years of games there is a 100% success rate to see both teams to score.
The last 5 meetings in a row have all seen over 2.5 goals.
West Ham vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
We will back West Ham to win at home. The club have importantly ended in a miserable run of form and in Europe they know their fate although they would obviously like to finish top of their group. It is true that the club remains on the edge in some ways given their overall form and they can be unpredictable- once you think they are doing well they have the tendency to surprise you- just ask long suffering fans. But they have shown some form and are playing a side with a lack of it.
The quality is in the team clearly and if they show up and stick to the plan we don’t believe that Palace have much of a chance here. The Hammers being at home are also a good price. This is a fixture that has given us goals so let’s stick to this pattern. For the home side we have been impressed with Tomas Soucek lately who had a quiet last season by his standards but he’s been able to pop up for a few goals and is excellent value to score again at the weekend.
