England Premier League
Wednesday 1st December 2021
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium
Match Preview:
West Ham have lost their last two games so will be hoping to get back to winning ways with the visit of Brighton. Whilst defeats are never welcomed the good news is that the club have stayed in 4th place despite this and the feeling around the club has been one of damage limitation.
At the weekend the Hammers were beaten away to Manchester City but under terrible snowy conditions they could hold up their heads high and were only beaten 2-1 in the end by the champions. The week before they suffered a frustrating loss to Wolves, but those games were both away from home.
David Moyes team would remain in 4th place even if they won this game because they are 5 points behind 3rd placed Liverpool but victory is needed given the increasing pressure from both Arsenal and Wolves.
Brighton are in 9th place and are five points behind West Ham. Graham Potter’s side are going through a frustrating time and it is over a month since the Seagulls recorded a win. In their last match they drew 0-0 with Leeds at home. So far the clubs home and away record is the same with 9 points won each and 50% of their away games have finished in a draw. However their last match on the road finished in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa. Victory in midweek in London could see Potter’s side climb 2-3 places depending on results above them.
Team News:
West Ham: Aaron Cresswell has a back injury although at this time it is not known about the extent of it but he has to be considered unlikely for this game. Angelo Ogbonna is out long term with a knee injury.
Brighton: No new injuries for the club but Danny Welbeck and Steven Alzate are out long term.
West Ham vs Brighton Head to Head:
Last season this fixture finished in an enjoyable 2-2 draw.
In the last five meetings in a row both teams have scored and those games have all finished in draws.
It’s been 9 games since West Ham beat Brighton going back to when they played in the Championship back in 2012.
There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
West Ham vs Brighton Prediction:
West Ham fans expect, they really do, and what has happened at the club under David Moyes is he has transformed them so much so that the fans would be bitterly disappointed if Brighton come here and get even a draw.
The Hammers have been excellent for a good year now but the pressure is on and it is so easy to play well- like they have done - but the wheels can still slowly come off and as mentioned above it’s two defeats in a row. You’d be brave to go against Moyes’ side though and he will want a reaction after last weekend.
We will back the home side to win the game and for them to get back on track. It might be worth keeping an eye on Tomas Soucek who is due a goal and had scored quite a few of them last season -that hasn’t been the case this season and he is really good value to get on the score sheet. He also scored against Brighton the last time they met in London!
