West Ham vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 1st February 2024
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham have earned 11 points from their last five games and come into this game in sixth place but they have slipped five points behind Tottenham in fifth place, however for now they cannot lose their current position. The Hammers have drawn back to back games with draws over Brighton and Sheffield United. Their home and away form is almost equal and they have won 50% of their matches at home and lost just twice. Home form has been solid and recent visitors Manchester United and Wolves both lost here. There is a chance that David Moyes side could go into the weekend seven points behind Tottenham and that would create a gap that they may find hard to make up in the coming months.

Bournemouth are in 13th place and have 25 points and their recent good form may have been stopped in its tracks after two defeats in a row which have come against Tottenham and Liverpool. However those losses can also be seen as coming up against two top 5 teams although seven goals were shipped in those games. There was good news to be had as the Cherries have sailed into the fifth round of the FA Cup after easily beating Swansea 5-0 at home. It is tight down there but the club would go into 12th and past Fulham with a win or even a draw. Away from home the club lost 3-1 against Tottenham in their last game but let’s remember that before then they had pulled off no less than 4 straight victories in a row. However the Cherries have lost 50% of their games on the road.

Team News:

West Ham: Said Benrahma and Vladimir Coufal are both suspended. Lucas Paqueta remains out with a calf injury but there is no timescale being noted as of yet. Michail Antonio remains a doubt and is just 50/50 to return from a knee injury. Nayef Aguerd is not being pencilled in for a possible return until the weekend. Edson Alvarez will be assessed for a calf injury but has a good chance to play some part.

Bournemouth: Dango Ouattara is on international duty but is being pencilled in to return for this weekend. James Hill, Ryan Fredericks, Tyler Adams, Maximillian Aarons and Adam Smith are all missing.

West Ham vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

The clubs have only played each other 18 times and West Ham has the majority winning result with 8 wins.

Last season West Ham won this fixture 2-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the teams drew 1-1.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

West Ham vs Bournemouth Prediction:

This looks set to be a close game and there isn’t much between these sides even though West Ham are having the better season. Of note recent results have favoured the Hammers and they have been able to remain without defeat against the Cherries for the last five games. Indeed it’s been five years since Bournemouth were able to get a win over them and almost six years since they beat them away from home.

Jarrod Bowen continues to be so important for West Ham and we expect him to get back on the score sheet although for extra value it may be worth backing him to get the first goal. The Hammers need to stay compact with the suspensions of both Benrahma and Coufal but we expect them to have enough at home to get all three points.
