West Ham vs Aston Villa: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 13th March 2022
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

The odds are firmly against them but West Ham are not about to give up the chase for 4th place just yet and victory here would be an important statement for David Moyes side in their quest for Champions League football next season.

The Hammers are in 6th place and just 3 points behind 4th but the problem is they have played 3 more games than Arsenal. However the players need to put any thoughts like that to one side and just win their games and see what happens. No one could have criticised Moyes side last weekend as they lost narrowly to Liverpool 1-0. The Londoners played some good football and were unlucky not to walk away with a least a point. The Liverpool defeat was expected but it also ended a 4 game unbeaten run in what has overall been an impressive season once again for the club.

West Ham played in midweek in the Europa League and they lost 1-0 away to Sevilla another result that wasn’t too bad given the circumstances and the club will be looking forward to the 2nd leg. The race for 4th can look good one week and out of reach the next but one of the keys for any club after that position is winning your home games and the Hammers have the 5th best home record in the league and are unbeaten here in their last three outings. The clubs last home game finished in a 1-0 win over Wolves.

Aston Villa are one of the most in form sides in the league and Steven Gerrard’s side come into this encounter having won their last 3 games. In beating Southampton and Leeds in their last two games Villa have scored 7 goals with no reply so there is no doubt that they come here in very high spirits. Villa are up to 9th place but with 36 points they are 9 points from a possible European finish, which would be a fantastic achievement for the club, they certainly have a chance.

On the road Villa are the only side in the Premier League not to have drawn a game but they have lost 8 from 14 games although have recently won 3 from their last four games and that includes winning their last two.

West Ham vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Some injuries are creeping up on West Ham and the loss of Bowen given that he has freely been finding the net of late is a blow. Michail Antonio has been very quiet in the league this year so that is a concern for the club. There was also the taxing trip to the south of Spain in the Europa League for the Hammers and it has been quite a tough week including the defeat away to Liverpool.

Aston Villa’s objectives are very different and they seem to be simply a side who are enjoying their football at this time with no cup competition distractions. The confidence is with them and importantly they are scoring goals too. Although this game is a step up for them and of course their away form overall is not good. But Villa are a great price to end their hoo doo in London against the Hammers and they just seem like they are in a better frame of mind and possibly less fatigued than the Moyes side coming into this one.
