West Ham vs Arsenal: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 21st March 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: London Stadium

Match Preview:

West Ham have performed brilliantly well so far this season with only the odd blip but this London derby will be a big test for the Hammers who still retain dreams of finishing the season in the top 4.

David Moyes side come into this game on Sunday in 5th place and are only 3 points behind 4th placed Chelsea. The Hammers recent form is cause for concern given that they have lost 2 of their last 3 games, although these defeats were against both Manchester sides and both were away from home, in that context there is still much to be excited about West Ham this season.

At home the Hammers have the 2nd best record, winning 27 points from a possible 42 and have lost only 3 games. The club are in good form at home, winning their last 3.

Arsenal are in good spirits coming into this game. They knocked out Olympiacos in th Europa League and are now in the quarter finals. They also beat Tottenham in the league even though Tottenham have had, up until now, a better season in the league than their nemesis. It was just another reminder for Tottenham that Arsenal aren’t quite finished yet.

The Gunners did actually lose their 2nd leg at home to Olympiacos but won the whole tie 3-2 on aggregate. Manager Mikel Arteta has been bullish in recent weeks and there is a feeling that Arsenal could finish the season strongly. However Arsenal’s away form is not strong with just 1 win in their last four and they could only draw against Burnley in their last away game.

Team News:

West Ham: Pablo Fornals has a slight muscle strain but could make this game. Ryan Fredericks is only 50/50 to make this one after his groin strain. Andriy Yarmolenko will be assessed but has some fitness issues after recovering from injury and is touch and go.

Arsenal: Bukayo Saka could be back for this game and will be assessed after his hamstring injury. Willian is expected to return after a slight calf injury.

West Ham vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Last season Arsenal beat West Ham 3-1 in this fixture.

West Ham have only beaten Arsenal once in the last 10 meetings to take place at West Ham.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

West Ham vs Arsenal Prediction:

West Ham and Arsenal games can feel like close affairs, especially recently where the final results have gone that way. But the bigger picture reveals that the Hammers have a very poor record over Arsenal. The Gunners come into this game looking a little more refreshed and they have an excellent record away to the Hammers be it in their new ground or old.

Arsenal are a very good price to win this game and we think it should be taken on with the draw covered on the refund. Despite their poor season the Gunners also have a chance to surpass Tottenham within a few weeks if form picks up.

As for West Ham they won’t lie down and that is why we will also back both teams to score, but Arsenal on their day have more quality than the Hammers and have a spring in their step at this moment in time.

West Ham vs Arsenal Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (0.0 Arsenal) at 1.70

Anytime goalscorer: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at 2.50
