Match Preview:
Sam Allardyce has finally been relegated as a manager and that was confirmed when West Bromwich Albion lost 3-1 at Arsenal. The fixtures don’t rest though and the Baggies will have another tough one this weekend as they face Liverpool.
At the beginning of April West Brom did show a glimmer of hope by beating Chelsea and Southampton but since then they reverted back to normal form and have no wins in their last 4 games. With 3 games to go though they could still over take Fulham to finish 18th and they are just 1 point behind the Cottagers.
This week means we can’t say Liverpool and champions in the same sentence, the title is officially over for the club as Manchester City were confirmed champions on Tuesday evening. Liverpool’s form has been decent and they still have a chance of finishing in the top four after their impressive away win over Man Utd.
Liverpool’s season has been weak compared to the last one of course but their away form has remained decent with just 3 defeats so far. The club will want to be putting all the pressure they can on Leicester and chelsea, but the Foxes must remain the favourites to wrap up a top 4 spot. As for this game Liverpool will be the odds on favourites to win and it is hard to look past them.
Team News:
West Bromwich Albion: No new injuries for the club, Branislav Ivanovic (hamstring) and Robert Snodgrass (back injury) are out for the rest of the season.
Liverpool: Divock Origi is still out with his muscle issue. Naby Keita and James Milner are doubtful, and of course the likes of Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk are still missing long term.
West Brom vs Liverpool Head to Head:
The last time the clubs played this fixture was back in 2018 and the match ended 2-2.
Earlier this season in the reverse fixture the game finished 1-1.
There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
West Brom vs Liverpool Prediction:
If all goes to plan Liverpool should win this and the final score could be 2-0 or 3-0, but perhaps we should heed a few warning signs. A team immediately after relegation are a different beast and West Brom will be able to just enjoy the occasion of playing a quality club like Liverpool.
Also in recent games they have been very close even though Liverpool have had far the superior side and there is no guarantee here especially with the way Liverpool have been playing that they are going to walk away with all three points.
Would it be that much of a surprise if the Baggies walked away with something from this game? Liverpool of course need the win but could expose themselves at the same time and even though form has improved they don’t look anywhere near the winning machine they were last season.
