England Premier League
Sunday 6th December 2020
Kick off at 12noon GMT
Venue: The Hawthorns
Match Preview:
And breathe…. Finally Slaven Bilic could throw his hands up in the air, not in despair but in glee and his smile returned to his face last weekend as West Brom beat Sheffield United 1-0. It only took 10 games and if the Baggies continue in this vein they are going back down but Bilic will hope that victory can spur them on to put some good results together.
On paper and being at home this could be a win for Albion at the weekend but they will have to be at 100%. They are still in the relegation zone and have earned just 4 points from their last available 15.
Home form alone isn’t as bad as one would think of a club ranked 18th, West Brom have only lost once in their last four games, with the win mentioned and two draws. Even then that defeat was against league leaders Tottenham in a super tight game that they eventually lost 1-0.
Crystal Palace come into this encounter in 15th and with poor form having lost 3 of their last four games, which includes two on the bounce. Last weekend the Eagles went down 2-0 at home against Newcastle and the previous week it was 1-0 against Burnley, two sides that Roy Hodgson would have fancied picking up points from.
You get the sense that even at this early stage that Palace will be fine for survival this season but probably stay in mid table and they are seven points from the bottom three already. Away from home the club have lost 60% of their matches with their last away win coming against Fulham six weeks ago. Victory at the weekend could add some new wings for the Eagles as they could be circling near the top 10 once again.
Team News:
West Brom: Sam Field is back from injury but suffering from a lack of match fitness and it would be no surprise if he missed out. Kieran Gibbs should be back after overcoming Covid-19, it is the same situation for Jake Livermore.
Crystal Palace: Wilfried Zaha was due back after he had Covid-19 but could miss this match as well, he may face a late assessment. Palace still have some long term injuries but no new ones to the team since last weekend.
West Brom vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
The teams haven’t met in the Premier League since 2017 when the match finished 0-0.
The last meeting was in the Carabao Cup in 2018 which Palace, at this ground, won 3-0.
There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
West Brom vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
Both sides simply remain unpredictable but the temptation is to go for the home victory. Having stayed at home for the second game in a row will be a major boost for West Brom who would have had good vibes throughout the week picking up their first win and having a taste for it.
They can go out and start well against Palace and if they can control the pace of the game they could be winning by half time which does offer very good value. At the same time Palace can be a very difficult team to break down and there isn’t much between the teams so we don’t expect there to be many clear cut chances and will back the under 3 goal market also.
West Brom vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips:
West Bromwich Albion to beat Crystal Palace at 2.80
