West Brom vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 26th September 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: The Hawthorns

Match Preview:

West Bromwich Albion have played some decent football and yet after 2 games of the new season have no wins. A 3-0 opening weekend defeat against Leicester was followed up by a 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Everton yet Slaven Bilic’s side have showed some grit, not that those results look like it.

The big concern is that even though Bilic’s side won’t go down in a match without some sort of fight they are leaking too many goals, and 8 in two games is too much. One would feel that Chelsea will be able to take advantage of that and Chelsea have just beaten Barnsley 6-0 in the Carabao Cup.

That win was overseen by a hat trick from new signing Kai Havertz and that will give the player all the confidence he needs to add to his tally and pick up his perfomances for the club.

The cup win was also important given Chelsea’s defeat at home against Liverpool, with that game ending 2-0 to the Reds. Some critics are out because even though Chelsea beat Brighton in their first game, no one was convinced by their performance and that is what this game at the weekend will be all about, how the Blues perform, well that and the three points of course.

Team News:

West Bromwich Albion: Kieran Gibbs is out because he is suspended for the next 3 games. Hegazi has a hamstring problem and looks like he could miss this game. Hal Robson-Kanu has a slight muscle problem and will be assessed ahead of the match

Chelsea: Hakim Ziyech is fighting to be fit for this game, there is no update on the player and we have to assume that he could miss this match. Normally Andreas Christensen would have been suspended for this game, but because of the Carabao Cup in midweek he served his suspension in that game instead after his red card last weekend v Liverpool

West Brom vs Chelsea Head to Head:

The teams have not met here in the league since 2017 when Chelsea won 4-0.

Chelsea have won the last 4 league meetings in a row.

From the last 11 games v Chelsea, WBA has just 1 win.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams not to score.

West Brom vs Chelsea Prediction:

Chelsea are the better team and can weather the storm in these type of games. They would have taken a confidence boost with the Barnsley win. At the same time WBA know they have to get points on the board, yes they conceded 5 goals at Everton, but they are a better club than they have let on, they can give this Chelsea defence some problems.

However it is hard to see past the Blues getting a win here, Lampard will demand more of his players than ever in these coming weeks, as they don’t want to drop what would be for them silly points at this stage of the season. Liverpool and Manchester City have set the bar so high now that dropped points against newly promoted teams so early on will come back to haunt you. However the Blues are a poor price to win the game around 1.30, they are not Liverpool or City and have not justified why we should be backing them at that price. However with a -1 asian handicap we can up the odds significantly with no extra risk, and that will be our main selection.

West Brom vs Chelsea Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Chelsea) at 1.58

Anytime goalscorer: Timo Werner at 1.85

Correct Score: Chelsea to win 2-1 or 3-1 at 9.50 and 12.00
