West Brom vs Brighton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 27th February 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: The Hawthorns

Match Preview:

The great Sam Allardyce get out of jail card looks like it has expired and only a miracle will keep West Bromwich Albion from returning to the Championship. The Baggies are 11 points from safety and in 19th place with 14 points.

Certainly there has been some fight in West Brom and they have only lost twice in the last five games. The problem is instead of winning games they are drawing them and the club come into this encounter on Saturday having drawn their last two. Last weekend it was against Burnley and the week before against Manchester United. Points of course are welcomed but draws will not get the club out of the relegation zone, and the bottom line is that Allardyce’s side have won just 2 games so far this season.

Brighton are in 16th just three places above their hosts but have a 12 point advantage. Due to the form of Fulham in 18th, Brighton are under pressure alongside Newcastle to win games. Last weekend Graham Potter’s side lost their first match in 4 as they were defeated by Crystal Palace in what felt like a huge six pointer.

Away from home for Brighton it’s won 4, drawn 4 and lost 4, but recent away form has been encouraging with just one loss in their last five and unbeaten in their last three. The clubs last away game ended in a 1-1 draw with Burnley.

Team News:

West Bromwich Albion: Kieran Gibbs looks set to miss another game with his neck injury. Semi Ajayi is suspended for this match. Robert Snodgrass is being tipped to be back after a minor knee injury though there is no confirmation as of yet.

Brighton: Adam Webster will face an assessment to see if he can come back from an ankle injury. Tariq Lamptey has fitness issues and Solly March is out long term with a knee injury.

West Brom vs Brighton Head to Head:

The last time the clubs played here in the league was in 2018 and West Brom won 2-0.

The clubs last game at this stadium was in the FA Cup in 2019 and Brighton won on penalties.

Their Premier League meetings have a 66% success rate to see both teams to score.

West Brom vs Brighton Prediction:

Even though Brighton aren’t out of danger just yet there is more pressure on West Brom to win this game as the chances for survival run thin. The team must impose themselves on the game, and if they don’t score early and settle in the game this approach could play into the hands of Brighton. This is why we expect to see goals and both teams to score should be taken on.

A draw is no good to either team but on their day there is nothing between the two clubs and this match could present itself with any of the three results possible. Lewis Dunk has been in decent form lately and has scored a couple of goals in the clubs last five away games, he could be worth picking out at the weekend.

West Brom vs Brighton Betting Tips:

Goal line (Over 2) at 1.575

Both teams to score at 1.91

Anytime goalscorer: Lewis Dunk at 5.00
