England Premier League
Wednesday 1st January 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Vicarage Road
Match Preview:
Watford have looked like a different side since Nigel Pearson took over and after being bottom of the league and six points adrift of safety the club are now 19th and just three points from escaping the bottom three.
The clubs last game was the big one beating Aston Villa a direct rival also in the bottom three. They beat them convincingly too winning 3-0 and now Watford look a team full of confidence and in great form coming into this game. They are unbeaten in their last 3 matches and have lost once in their last five. In beating both Manchester United and Aston Villa the Hornets have won back to back home games coming into this game. Their last defeat at Vicarage Road was five weeks ago.
Wolves are in 7th place with 30 points and they lost their last match against Liverpool 1-0. The team were livid as they believed their goal should have counted and they could have drawn the game. The goal looked good except for a toe being offside and VAR did not rule in their favour. Wolves made it difficult for Liverpool though and remain a threat to most sides in the league.
Wolves have picked up 7 points from their last 15 and so form has been average with 2 wins and 2 losses from their last four games. They are just 5 points from a top 4 place though and will keep that in mind. On the road they have drawn 50% of their games, though the Liverpool defeat was the clubs first in 5 matches.
Team News:
Watford: Craig Cathcart has a knock and is a doubt for this game. Daryl Janmaat has a knee injury that will see him ruled out for the next 3 weeks. Adrian Mariappa is suspended for this game after being sent off for two bookable offences. An update on Danny Welbeck could have the striker back in the team at the end of January following his long term hamstring injury
Wolves: Patrick Cutrone has illness and missed the Liverpool game and is a doubt for this match
Watford vs Wolves Head to Head:
Last season Wolves won this fixture 2-1.
Earlier in the season Wolves won 2-0 in the reverse fixture.
There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.
Watford vs Wolves Prediction:
Is there any reason not to think Watford can win yet again? This is the moment and for the next six weeks at least where Watford can secure their survival and move away from the bottom three. Poor form could hit the club once again and they will need to capitalise on their great form before that happens. Wolves are the better team however, and they don't tend to lose many games against lower quality opposition even if the opposition is in great form, with most of Wolves losses coming against the big clubs. Therefore we will back Wolves on a 0.0 asian handicap so the draw is covered. We will also back Raul Jimenez to get on the scoresheet, he's in decent form and had a bit of a rest with just a substitute appearance in Wolves' last game against Liverpool.
Watford vs Wolves Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (0.0 Wolves) at 1.60
Anytime goalscorer: Raul Jimenez at 2.30
