Watford vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 12th May 2019
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Vicarage Road

Match Preview:

Make no mistake despite what manager and players say the only thing on Watford’s minds is next weekend’s FA Cup final with Manchester City. It will be The Hornets first cup final since 1984 when they lost to Everton and the total focus has to be on that game.

Watford have little to play for anyway given that Wolves secured 7th place and not only is a trophy at stake for the club but also a chance to play in the Europa League too, so it is completely understandable if they don’t start with their best 11 players on Saturday or take this game seriously. It is why we do not have to look at the teams form coming into this game, it will be insignificant.

At the same time West Ham have little to play for too but if they are sensing 3 points they will be like a predator coming in for the kill.

The Hammers did get a terrific 3-0 win at home to Southampton but they have been found lacking away from home where they have lost 10 times this season. However they did end a 4 game losing streak on the road by winning their last away game which ended in a 1-0 win over Tottenham who were focused on the Ajax Champions League game. West Ham will be looking to benefit then from another unfocused team effort.

Team News:

Watford: Miguel Britos had a tooth removed, brave man- he should in reality be back for this game, but is oddly only 50/50 to participate. Etienne Capoue seems to have recovered from his groin injury and his manager has confirmed that he will play in this match.

West Ham: Andy Carroll has booked his holiday to Dubai and will as expected now miss the rest of the season which could include pre season. Unconfirmed reports are that Carroll will leave the club in the summer. Felipe Anderson has a virus but will be assessed ahead of the game. Declan Rice caught Anderson’s virus but both are expetcted to recover for this match

Watford vs West Ham Head to Head:

Watford beat West Ham away from home earlier in the season 2-0.

This fixture had ended 2-0, 2 times for Watford and once for West Ham in the last 3 matches.

West Ham have not won at Watford since 2011.

Watford vs West Ham Prediction:

West Ham have a great chance here to end the season on a high and get a victory. It would be surprising to see Watford field a strong team ahead of their most important match in perhaps 30 years. But this is West Ham and sometimes we can expect the unexpected, having said that we are backing the Londoners to get the win in a match that could be very close with The Hammers just shading it.

Watford vs West Ham Betting Tips:

Asian handicap 0.0 West Ham at 2.25
