Match Preview:
Nobody at Watford would have been expecting how the club would bounce back after being destroyed 5-0 at home by Liverpool. So what was the perfect tonic? How about going up to Merseyside and putting five goals past Liverpool’s derby rivals Everton?
Football can be bizarre and have many twists and turns and Watford’s game against Everton had all of this in 90 minutes. With just 12 minutes remaining of normal time Everton looked like they were cruising as they were leading 2-1. And then the collapse came. Every time the Hornets came forward they stung the Everton goal and scored an incredible 4 goals to well and truly kill the game off. It was an incredible and fantastic result for Ranieri’s side and was capped off with a hat trick from Joshua King a former Everton player.
Ranieri is a wise manager though and despite the win last weekend he will understand that was a classic game in which his side were heading for defeat. Four goals in just over 10 minutes are not going to be the order of the day, but of course the Italian and the club will take the victory. It was only Watford’s third of the season so far and they come into this fixture in 14th place with 10 points. At home they have one win so far and none from their last three encounters.
Southampton are in 16th place and a win here would take them above their hosts. Form has been mixed for the Saints with 5 points earned from their last 15 but they have gone their last two games unbeaten. Last weekend they were able to get a 2-2 draw against Burnley and that followed victory over Leeds. In midweek the Saints put in a solid performance against Chelsea in the EFL Cup but after drawing 1-1 lost on the penalty shoot-out.
Team News:
Watford: Emmanuel Dennis is suspended for this game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Femenia will be assessed after recovering from his hip injury. Francisco Sierralta is out with his hamstring.
Southampton: Armando Broja has been ruled out with an ankle injury. Jack Stephens is not due back until December with his knee injury.
Watford vs Southampton Head to Head:
The last time the clubs played here was in 2020 and Southampton won 3-1.
It’s been 7 games since Watford recorded victory over Southampton and Watford haven’t beaten the Saints when at home since 2007.
Watford vs Southampton Prediction:
Southampton are finding some form but in 16th place they are not out of the woods just yet. The Saints do have a very solid record over Watford though.
As for Watford who knows? In a way the Liverpool defeat was expected but it was a damp squib to Ranieri’s reign at the club, but then how they followed that up was greater than expected and there is no reason to not believe that the players will be right behind their new manager now and be raring to go in front of their home fans. Does this game then become the make up one for the dour Liverpool result?
The value on here is very good for us because of course these two clubs are similar in style. But let’s stick with the new manager syndrome theory and back the home side to win or draw. It is a major plus that Joshua King scored 3 goals last weekend so he will have the goal scoring touch and should be looked into.
Watford vs Southampton Betting Tips:
